It's pretty common to speak decent English amongst young people in Europe. They're all glued to their smartphones, see English everywhere around them and that way learn fast.
It is pretty common here, but also you can attribute that to his professionalism as well.
I remember his first press conference with Fiorentina and journalists where shocked that he already spoke Italian. Not fluently back then of course, but he was able to communicate with them in Italian even though they brought a translator along.
