A capacity crowd was in attendance at Juventus Stadium to witness a convincing 2-0 victory over Fiorentina as the offensive duo of Mirko Vucinic and Alessandro Matri each found the back of the net in a particularly dominant first half display.
Juve’s convincing start was rewarded when Vucinic lashed a powerful effort home from outside the box on 19 minutes, while Matri doubled the advantage shortly before the break following some good work from Arturo Vidal.
The first noteworthy chance of the encounter fell to Marchisio on ten minutes. The midfielder, making his 200th official appearance in the black and white stripes, brilliantly rounded Savic to work a shooting opportunity just outside the box, only to see his fiercely struck left-footed effort roll menacingly past the post with keeper Viviano beaten.
Moments later, an intelligent quick free kick from Pirlo caught the away defence off guard. The ever-alert Vucinic connected with the pass, however the Viola shotstopper was alive to the situation to prevent an early Juventus lead.
With 17 minutes played, Fiorentina fashioned their best opportunity of the half. After a partially blocked shot from Cuadrado, the ball dropped favourably in the box for Jovetic, and with Marrone wrong footed, the young Montenegrin forward released a low effort which forced a reaction save from the left leg of Buffon.
Just two minutes later, the Bianconeri identified a gap in the Viola defence and made their dominance count by achieving the breakthrough. A long pass from Pirlo was directed towards the run of Matri, with Roncaglia’s headed clearance dropping straight into the path of Vucinic, who had no hesitation in lashing home a fierce volley past the diving Viviano.
Visibly buoyed by his goal, the Montenegrin almost doubled his tally after strong pressure forced Rodriguez into a mistake. Having won the ball on the right wing, Vucinic drove towards the target but saw his attempt thwarted by Viviano.
The Bianconeri doubled their advantage with 41 minutes played. Excellent skill from Vidal drew in the Viola defence, with Matri capitalising on the space to receive the Chilean’s pass and guide a low shot home to bring Juventus Stadium to its feet.
Conte’s men were quick out of the blocks after the interval and created their opening chance of the half after just two minutes. De Ceglie burst down the left flank and squared the ball back to the edge of the box, where Vidal struck a powerful effort which fizzed narrowly over the crossbar.
A marauding run from the right side of midfield then saw Lichtsteiner thread a dangerous pass between two defenders to find Matri in space, but his effort from a tough angle passed just wide of the far post.
The hosts had several chances to add to the lead in the final ten minutes as a sustained spell of pinned Fiorentina back in their own half.
After an attempted bicyle kick from the penalty spot, Vidal sprung back to his feet and won the ball inside the opposition box. The Chilean midfielder then picked out Pogba lurking with intent on the edge of the area, but a diving purple shirt blocked the Frenchman’s effort.
Giovinco had an opportunity to put the icing on the cake in the dying stages, but failed to connect with a right footed volley after Peluso’s teasing delivery from the left.
