Diego: 'Because I'm worth it'
Saturday 25 July, 2009
Diego is yet to make his Juventus debut, but assures the fans he is “well worth” the £22m paid to bring him to Serie A.
“I think I’m well worth it, for all that is said about me in Europe and for everything I believe I can give to this team,” he told the Gazzetta dello Sport.
“My objective is to get in sync with Italian football as quickly as possible.”
The Brazilian was Juve’s big summer signing from Werder Bremen, but is still waiting to play his first game due to a slight injury.
He was on the bench for last night’s 2-1 victory away to Sevilla in the Peace Cup, but could feature against South Korean side Seongnam on Tuesday.
Diego hopes that he can impress enough with Juventus in Serie A and the Champions League to earn his place in the 2010 World Cup squad, even though Kaka is ahead of him.
“Kaka is a wonderful player and, in his case as well as mine, I think the money spent was worth it,” he said of the £60m Real Madrid buy.
“The Selecao has a large variety of players to choose from and in order to get back in there, I am going to have to do well with Juve.
“Nothing would make me happier than playing for the Brazil side again.
