Look, as much as folks love to knee-jerk themselves into a tantrum, players need time to adjust to a new league. Diego deserves another chance. To throw him away after just one season would be highly idiotic as he clearly has the talent that we are looking for. If he doesn't show it this season then we can ship him off, but he deserves another chance.

This isn't Real Madrid or Inter where we can have a high turnover of players each season. It didn't work for them and it would not work for us. Buying Walter Samuel for 20M Euros then shipping him off the following summer for 3 is bad business.
Regardless of the new league theory, the whole team was not performing last season so one cannot make a clear judgement on the players.

Did you check the article I recommended to you Andy in the WAYDRN thread a day or two ago?
Just got it.

You can to some extent. But yes, since the team was so poor, especially when we had the ball, it's difficult place a lot of blame on Diego.

Well of course some players can be easily judged, Grosso for example and Grygera but these are extreme cases.

I fully agree. I'm not the biggest Diego fan and if you remember, I wasn't particularly glad about his arrival, but judging him right now is bollocks.

You still would like Melo to stay Jack?
I never wanted to sell him but after his World Cup craziness I asked for him to be sold. Apparently he has issues but if we are to sell him like that we would lose a lot of his value (I don't know if it's his value but what we bought him for)

Not that it matters for me, these profits and gains and player wages ...

Goals and a great show during mini-match

Two goals and an assist: Diego was in great form during the 10-a-side mini-match held on a reduced field which Del Neri held during the morning session, while the rest of the team were busy in the gym. The match, lasted half an hour and ended 3-2 for the blues with two goals by the Brazilian and a goal by Marrone. The goals for the blues were scored by Pasquato and Grosso. Before the mini-match the team had their warm-up consisting of a handball match and then took part in a series of exercises in groups. During this last part of the session, Amauri was forced to leave because he felt ill. The last part of the session was dedicated to tactical work, The session was followed from the sidelines by director general for sport affairs Giuseppe Marotta.

Del Neri: 'Diego important for Juve'

Gigi Del Neri has sensationally taken Diego off the market. “He can play an important part for Juventus and is tactically similar to Cristiano Doni.”

The Bianconeri need to whittle down their squad after bringing in a series of new names and Diego is one of those expected to go following a poor debut campaign.

In his first training sessions, the Coach has been testing him out as a support striker, much like Antonio Cassano at Sampdoria.

“Diego is a very different player to Cassano, as I feel he is tactically similar to Doni,” insisted Del Neri in today’s Press conference.

“He is working hard and can do very well. I think he can play an important part for Juventus this season.

“Diego must be free to roam the final third, as he can play easily as a support for a lone centre-forward or as a trequartista behind two strikers.

“Quite aside from tactics, the important thing is to have the right mentality. Every player must work for the team and not as an individual. This squad needs certainty at every level and once I’ve chosen a system, we will not change it.”

Del Neri is still working on the tactics ahead of Juve’s early start to the season in the Europa League preliminary round.

The squad numbers were unveiled today, but further adjustments are expected on the transfer market.

“We must move cautiously,” said the Coach. “Spending money for the sake of buying is pointless, otherwise we may as well keep the players we have now.

“Juve must have an identity and a style of play, that is what President Andrea Agnelli asked for and where we must start from.

“We must absorb that mentality and then take it with us on to the field.”

-----------------------------

Del Neri definitely wont be selling Diego now. He just lowered his price by 50% by comparing him to Doni
