City's £40m for Diego and Cavani

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini is lining up a total £40m to sign Edinson Cavani and Juventus star Diego, it’s reported.

The British newspapers today suggest that Mancio has set his sights on the two Serie A targets.

According to the Daily Star, City are prepared to match Palermo’s declared price-tag for Uruguayan striker Cavani.

That means a fee of £22m plus a contract worth £2.5m per season to beat competition from Napoli.

“There has been no offer from Napoli, but there is interest from City and a few Russian teams,” confirmed Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini.

Cavani is not the only Serie A target for Manchester City, as it’s also reported Juventus man Diego could be on his way to England.

The Brazilian has struggled in his debut Serie A season and it remains to be seen where the trequartista will fit into new Coach Gigi Del Neri’s preferred 4-4-2 tactics.

Diego is rated at around £19mand could be sacrificed to raise funds after Juve qualified only for the Europa League preliminary round.
