Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo believes his players will be determined to bounce back from Saturday’s defeat to West Bromwich Albion by putting in a strong performance against Juventus on Tuesday night.
Reflecting on the 2-1 reverse at the Hawthorns, Di Matteo began: “It was a frustrating result for us. We know that we need to pick ourselves up and owe it to ourselves to produce a result tomorrow.”
But Blues supremo, who lifted his team to Champions League glory within months of replacing Andre Villas-Boas in the Stamford Bridge hot seat, is fully aware of the threat posed by Antonio Conte’s Serie A table toppers.
“It’s going to be a difficult test and an intriguing encounter. We need to look to cause Juventus problems. I’ve seen them in action on many occasions, they played well against Lazio, pinning the visitors back in their own half. We’ll have to be alert to the danger and defend well.”
“I think it will be an open game. Juve may have a slight advantage seeing as they’re playing at home, but that could also work in our favour. Both sides are under pressure to get a result, but we remain confident and positive about our chances.”
Defender Gary Cahill joined his manager in reiterating the importance of tomorrow’s fixture: “Being a part of a club like Chelsea means you’re expected to get results. We’re aware of what we have to do tomorrow night and will approach it in the same way as every other game. We know the stakes are high.”
