Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo thinks his team will be in for an intriguing test when they launch their Champions League defence against Juventus at Stamford Bridge tomorrow night.
The 42-year-old, whose Chelsea outfit are currently lie at the top of the English Premier League, spoke highly of Antonio Conte’s side and believes their sensational league form will make them a tough prospect to overcome.
Di Matteo said: “Juventus are a very strong, dynamic team. They’re on a fantastic unbeaten run and have managed to successfully blend youth and experience. I would say they’re one of the most difficult teams to be drawn against.
“I’m expecting Juventus to play their own brand of football. They like to keep possession and attack. We need to try and counteract that and close down the space available to them.”
The Italian coach was joined in the Blues’ press suite by midfielder John Obi Mikel, who wasted little time in detailing his admiration for opposite number Andrea Pirlo.
The 25-year-old said: “Everyone saw Pirlo’s qualities in the European Championships. He’s been in the game for a long time and is a legend.
“Tomorrow is going to be a real midfield battle. I respect him as a player and hopefully I can learn something from him,” he concluded.
