I think you guys should expect more of this, It is should be well known by now that Platini is with the little fish in the pond. He would support them all the way. If I remember correctly, he had "reducing number of teams qualifying to CL from the big leagues" in his agenda of candidacy to UEFA presidency. Though I hate that Italy lost the bid, but I really can't decide if his decision is good for the game as a whole or not.

From what I've heard Italy will still invest in stadiums but not that much as should if they had won Euro 2012. The same thing is with Croatia too. And not to forget that candidates for Euro 2016 will need to have already builded stadiums if they want to candidate.

It would be rediculus for Italy to make a bid for 2016 .. I mean, what the .. if every country is gonna make a bid for it for every Euro competition we'll never see the end of it .. Personally, I would see it stupid for France, Germany, England, Belgium, Holland, Portugal, Switzerland, Austria, and obviously, Ukraine and Poland and any candidates for every Euro Competition for 2004 or later to present themselves for Euro 2016... First two for '98 and '06 WCs, the rest for hosting and the candidates should settle for 2 competitions atleast ... e.g. Italy shouldn't present another bid before 2024 (( wow I will 37 by then ... :faq1: )) ... just my two cents ...

Juventus sees return to profit within 3 years


In an interview with the weekly Il Mondo, Blanc said that the company has to carry out significant investments over the next two years which will lead to a high level of amortisations.

He added that Juventus will see a 30% decline in revenues for the full-year ending June 30, after being relegated last year to second division Serie B, while it could close the financial year with a net result close to break-even thanks to the sale of players.

Blanc added that the 105 mln eur capital increase the club intends to launch will be mainly used to buy new players this summer, and partly to reduce the company's debt.

The company is holding its annual general meeting, which is expected to approve the recapitalisation, at 10.30 am.

The daily La Stampa added that the club will also discuss today the refurbishing of its Turin-based Delle Alpi stadium.

The newspaper said the club could go ahead with a large-scale remodelling of the stadium, despite Italy losing its bid to host the 2012 soccer championships to Poland and Ukraine.

The club would have obtained a 120 mln eur interest-free loan from the government if the country had hosted the event, it added.

Juventus to study options for stadium refurbishment


All options will be discussed with the city of Turin, which owns the stadium, The newspaper La Stampa said, adding that it will examine any opportunity offered by the government.

In an interview with the daily Il Corriere della Sera, sports minister Giovanna Melandri highlighted that the government has included 20 mln eur in the 2007 budget towards the organisation of the event and has signed agreements for the refurbishment of the stadiums earmarked for the tournament.

I agree i like the Della Alpi Stadium, However i would remove the track. It will only look magnificient if its full cause most of the time it is deserted!

We just have to settle with what we can get. Other objectives are much more important to us now, including 1) the strengthening of our squad, 2) achieving CL qualification and 3) improving the financial situation (all of these being linked)..

If we can get 20 million euros to do some minor improvements on the Delle Alpi then I'd be happy to settle for this for the time being. We must create a possibility for ourselves to, in five or ten years, improve it further.
