The Allievi Nazionali (Under 17s) are next in action in the new year. The whole group is on holiday until Wednesday 2 January, when training resumes. While the lads enjoy their well-earned holidays, coach Ivano Della Morte looked back on the season so far.
Della Morte is pleased with what his players have achieved thus far: “We’re slightly disappointed about our last few results. Despite performing very well, we undeservedly lost to Empoli and Sampdoria and drew with La Spezia. It’s a shame because we were on a great run through November. But overall I’m happy, especially when I think about how we started.”
To really assess the Allievi’s season so far we need to go back to the summer, and the start of the campaign. “We began with a handicap, considering how many 15-year-olds we had to bring in, the injuries we sustained and, above all, our foreign players being unavailable as they were only registered once the season had begun. We needed time for the squad to settle, but thanks to the intelligence and application of everyone we’ve been able to play good football and we’re still on target to achieve what we set out to. Let’s say we’ve sown the seeds in 2012 and now we hope to reap our rewards.”
So 2013 holds high hopes for Della Morte and his players. “What do I expect from the new year? I expect us to continue to progress and improve, that’s the main thing when it comes to young players. Then I’d like a little bit more luck when it comes to results.
