Category: <b>General</b><br><br>Juventus’ Alessandro Del Piero insisted that he will not dwell on his wasted chances during the 2-0 win over Siena. "We’ve had a great year," he said.
Del Piero came on as a second half substitute last night and squandered two gilt-edged chances to become Juventus’ all-time top goalscorer.
With the match already beyond the visitors’ reach, Coach Fabio Capello replaced David Trezeguet with Pinturicchio on the hour in order to give him the chance to make history with his 183rd goal in the Bianconeri shirt.
However, on two occasions when free in the area, the Italy international tried to take the ball around Antonio Mirante to finish with a flourish and was denied both times by the Siena goalkeeper.
"It doesn’t matter that I was unable to give myself a personal Christmas present," he insisted. "On a couple of occasions I came very close but I’m in no hurry.
"There’s plenty of time yet," he added. "Maybe I’ll do it on Saturday January 7 against Palermo."
Del Piero’s refusal to be downhearted about his failure to ice his Christmas cake is understandable given that Juventus have really had an extraordinary 2005.
They have been top of the League literally all year, having collected 93 points from a possible 117 in 39 League matches.
In that time they have also won a 28th Scudetto and got this season off to a flyer too, losing just once, finishing top of their Champions League group and earning a favourable draw against Werder Bremen in the next round.
"It’s been a big year," agreed Del Piero. "With two goals in each half against Siena we’ve ended 2005 in style.
"That was our ninth consecutive home win, we were crowned winter champions with two matches still to play," continued Juve’s No 10. "So there’s plenty to reflect upon with satisfaction. Now we can rest and enjoy a peaceful break."<br><br>Source: Football Italia
