De jong is a midfielder is he not??

Barzagli and Sagnol I think are pretty much done deals. Im worried about Bazagli, the club needs a certain young star for central defence and im not sure if he is up to it.

Kompany is another rumoured defender and i see him being a better option, even if he hasnt had the experience in serie A. but he has played against in the best in europe so he does have that positive.

Gallas was recently rumoured also.

i would like Gallas, Kompany and Sagnol to join. I think they would really make the defence strong and maintain it that way for years to come.

Departures should see Birindelli and Pessotto. Wouldn't be surprised if Thuram was to make a move as well.

I would be very surprised ! why thuram shold leave juventus ! he's the heart of defense

i don't agree with the last statement. i think pessotto and thuram should end their careers at juve. thuram is especially pivotal in our defence.

Milan ponder De Jong swoop Friday 23 December, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Milan are pondering a swoop for Juventus target Nigel De Jong, who is available on a free transfer in the summer.

As reported by Football Italia earlier this month, De Jong has attracted the interest of Juventus as a player of huge potential for the future but the versatile defender has now registered on the Rossoneri’s radar.

De Jong, whose father, Jerry, played for Holland in the 1990s, has come through the ranks of the Ajax academy and grown into one of the most promising players in the Netherlands.

He made his breakthrough two years ago when he won the competition for a right-back berth with Hatem Trabelsi. Since then, the 21-year-old has proven his ability to also play at left-back and on both wings.

These are exactly the sort of qualities that Carlo Ancelotti is looking for as he scours the transfer market for two defenders – one an experienced stopper and another a young player of promise.

De Jong has also received glowing reports from Holland manager and former Milan teammate Marco Van Basten, who is said to have recommended the ambitious Ajax starlet to Ancelotti.

Milan do face stiff opposition from Juve, though. The Bianconeri have a great relationship with the player’s agent, Mino Raiola, who negotiated with Juve sporting director Luciano Moggi in the deals that took Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Emerson and Pavel Nedved to Turin.

hasn`t Pessotto retired yet?!
Actually if Pessotto retires in Juve or some other team it won`t really matter since he isn`t really PLAYING for us anymore

Birindelli and Pessotto should retire at Juve for sure. If Thuram wants to he should be allowed to as well.

If I could realistically choose the centre back to join Juve this summer I would opt for Gonzalo Rodriguez. He's young, confident and playing some excellent football at Villarreal. He has really caught my eye with his defensive displays since making the switch from Argentina to Spain.

Gonzalo is great, but he is very much like Cannavaro, so when Fabio call it a day, he would be the perfect replacement. What we need another Thuram, strong, tall and good in the air and ground. Gallas is not bad, but that Vincent Kompany is better !

Anyone to give some info on De Jong? I don't know him much..is he really talented or just overrated? is he juve material?
Well he is a talented player with real skills. He can play as rightback, leftback, central defender and in the centre or on the right of the midfield he is really a player that can play everywhere, that is actually one of the reasons that he's going to leave ajax for free because he always has to switch his position and he got sick and tired of it. I really think he can add depth to our squad.
