Ajax confirm Hammers' De Jong bid

Ajax have revealed West Ham are the only club to have made an official approach for their Dutch international midfielder Nigel de Jong.

The 21-year-old is out of contract in the summer and Sevilla were reported to have already talked to the player.

But Ajax technical director Martin van Geel said: "West Ham are the only club who have really contacted us about a possible transfer for Nigel."

Hammers boss Alan Pardew saw De Jong play on Sunday against NEC Nijmegen.

The highly-rated midfielder has been linked with moves to AC Milan and Juventus, but Spanish side Sevilla looked to be the Dutchman's preferred destination.

"I had a good conversation there," said de Jong. "For me the feeling that I get from a club is most important. I must feel that they really want me.

"I don't want to wait until the latest moment before making a decision, but I'm in no hurry either."

In the past De Jong has also been watched by the scouts of Manchester United.

We'll never sign him, just because Juve management hate me and never want to have another dutch player in the squad again...

Ian, is it just me or does that signature sound a tad communist?

No offence intended of course, but nowadays you need a disclaimer for everything around here, even with a safety smiley. :groan:

That must be it.

Seriously though, De Jong simply is not good enough.

Nope, it's very communist. The revolution lives and the new world will be obtained. Wealth will be redistributed worldwide, and the international brotherhood of man is attainable. I feel very strongly that the current globalistic capitalist system is setting itself up for collapse. Viva la revolution!

No offence taken. I disclaim nothing. I am a communist, and I dedicate my life the ideals expressed in those lyrics, that's why I have them in my sig. Seriously.
