Edgar Davids has only played a handful of games for Inter this season and could make a swift return to the Nou Camp.

The Dutchman evaluated several offers from Spain, Italy and England before finally opting for a contract with the Nerazzurri this summer. He was a free agent after his deal with Juventus and a six-month loan spell at Barcelona expired.

However, he has struggled to make an impact at the San Siro in a squad packed with midfielders, especially with Esteban Cambiasso’s impressive current form.

Coach Roberto Mancini has conceded he hasn’t dealt with the situation particularly well, but the January transfer window could give both of them an important opportunity.

Davids would be welcomed back to Barcelona with open arms after his splendid performances helped resuscitate their fortunes last season.

Inter have the chance to bring in the midfielders that Mancini originally requested – his Lazio stalwarts Stefano Fiore and Giuliano Giannichedda.

Fiore has not made an impact since moving to Valencia in the summer and was reportedly frozen out of the squad this week following a row with Claudio Ranieri. He is also of interest to other Serie A sides, including Fiorentina and Juventus.

Giannichedda is the midfield warrior that Mancini needs to give his Inter side extra balance, although he is currently out of action following thigh surgery. He would be available, as the ex-Udinese man’s contract expires in June.

Davids got what he asked for: highe$t bidder. IMO, thus he has no grounds to complain about his situation at Inter.

Indeed. Sold to the highest bidder. It would take a fool to think he could break into a permanent position in a squad as postion competitive as inter, where there are players also alot younger then him who deserve a good chance.

if he knew lippi was leaving at the end of the season and that capello was coming he might have stayed...i know for a fact that his departure wasn't purely due to money.
