Fans forget fast. Rugani showed promise at a young age besides BBBC but he was just as poor as those other duds in the last few years. Couldn't even carve out some space at Ajax but suddenly we need him, lol...
He never complains for benching nd accepts being back up role, Igor plays him in rotation system mostly for Coppa games where the main CBs need a rest. We have terrible injury stat and He is always available to cover the spot when other options are out of form or injured. Right now, he can't be blamed for being mediocre because even Kelly, who is paid more than him, hasn't performed as well. Rugani is on low wage and I'd rather have a cheap option on the bench than someone at the same level with a higher salary.

Not really. He's been a solid back up, never complains and he's rather cheap as well. If anything, it was retarded to send him away in the first place...Just to then go and spend money on scrubs like Lloyd Kelly.

He's not cheap for a backup, neither has he been very reliable in past seasons. Him shying away from nearly every duel put the defence in difficulties on a regular basis.

I'm not talking about Lloyd Kelly here. I'm talking about Rugani and he won't solve a thing. We need better players. When Ajax don't want him, it should show enough.

I get he's available, yes but 2,2 million ain't cheap to be playing 5 Coppa games...

Let's stop the comparisons; everybody wants Kelly out so that's not some standard to measure anyone by.

Thing is we simply need to do better than someone that sparks the intrest of Parma ffs.

What do you expect! You can't find a player with under 2m salary unless you recruit from the football school and 9 or 10 years old baby. It's 2025 please grow up.

Dude, there are many players of his level who are well under 2m... Even in our own squad, Cabal for instance.
Even a starter like Gatti was around 2,5m (don't know how much it is now after his extension).

My guess is you're overestimating Rugani. He can stay as a sub for all I care but he's not a solution to anything. We need another fucking quality defender and if either one of subs leaving (be it Rugani or someone else) can make that happen, do it.

A nice stat: there are 10 teams who don't even have 1 player with that salary in Serie A this year and 2 other teams who only have 1 of those. On top of those 12 Fiorentina's 2 best paid players have exactly his salary. So yeah, for what he brings and how little he plays, I don't think that's "cheap".

I always stated Rugs was overpaid for his production. Though our salary structure years back was one where most players were overpaid. Didn't mind seeing him go. If he hasn't slowed up at all, I don't see how a guy like Kelly would start over him. Was he injured last season? Well worth his pay if occasional starter and maybe more than that. Rugani >>> Kelly looking at stat history. And maybe no experts are transfermarket but Rugs 22M while Kelly 18M. Juve management might be the only ones valuing Kelly so high.

We will eventually be sitting back constantly once we realize Tutor sucks and so do our signings so keep Rugani because he’s fine in a low block and winning headers. In fact he’s solid in that. Stupid fuckers.

Ah, cause the great Adam Digby said it. Guess that discussion is settled then.

I disagree. He's fine as back up, always was.
Who said aything about settling it?

As a 6th option he might be, yeah. And he's waaaaay too expensive for that. Basically another Kelly but without the transfer sum and the Huijsen crux above his head.

the problem is not rugani, the problem is that he's better or at least not worse than our cb's bar bremer. rugani was an all right 5th cb, and it's simply bad luck that he had to play against ajax, probably the only game digby remembers from him. the problem is that now our squad is much worse than 5-6 years ago, our standards dropped, our revenue is weak, the league is barely surviving, we're still feeling the consequences of ticiconomics and his successors. that's the problem, not rugani.

btw digby isn't a good journalist and it shows. singling out one player in this situation is a very bad approach and a weak attempt for a "i told u so years ago" moment. rugani in that team and in this team isn't very comparable

He is levels under Gatti and Kalulu. Probably under Cabal too. I didn't like him one bit in his final seasons for us. He's strong in the air but that's about it. He backs out of any ground duels which creates a lot of problems for others, moves slow and is mediocre at best with the ball at his feet.

Again sporting wise as a 5th or 6th choice, he's more than fine because he doesn't complain and is always available but his salary is massive for that spot and we need a freaking starter because right now we're probably one injury away from him (or Kelly...) starting and exposing us. Let's just say Genoa and Parma are the rumoured interested teams.

Apparently he has separated from his wife, I came across his profile on Instagram and his (ex-) wife's, there is no trace of the likes and shares that used to be there, they removed all the photos of the two of them together from their profiles.
