Juve await Zanetti verdict

Juventus will have to wait until Tuesday to discover the seriousness of Cristiano Zanetti’s leg injury.

The Turin club’s key midfielder limped out of the 2-0 win over Genoa on Sunday night after feeling a twinge in his right thigh.

The 2006 free transfer from Inter has suffered a muscle strain, but tests which will determine the exact entity of the problem will only be conducted on Tuesday.

Early indications are that Zanetti will be out of action for around 20 days which will be a big blow to Claudio Ranieri’s Champions League chasing side.

The Old Lady will face Napoli at the Olimpico on Sunday and Ranieri will have a number of changes to make.

As well as being without the injured Zanetti, the Coach will also be shy of the suspended trio of Jonathan Zebina, Nicola Legrottaglie and Mauro Camoranesi.

The loss of the first two means that the Juve defence should line up with Zdenek Grygera, Guglielmo Stendardo, Giorgio Chiellini and Cristian Molinaro.

The latter was absent from Juve’s victory last night at Marassi after he was sidelined with an energy sapping fever.

On the positive side, Pavel Nedved will return to action after serving his two-match ban for his dismissal in the 0-0 derby against Torino.

Official: Zanetti out for 25 days

Juve learn Zanetti damage
Tuesday 11 March, 2008

Juventus have determined the extent of the injury that midfielder Cristiano Zanetti sustained against Genoa.

The influential former Inter man limped off at Marassi with a pain in his right thigh and there were immediate fears that the problem could be serious.

It has been confirmed that the injury is a first-degree thigh strain and will keep Zanetti on the sidelines for around 25 days.

The 30-year-old will miss out on the Old Lady’s encounter with Napoli this weekend and also the trip to Empoli.

Claudio Ranieri’s Champions League chasers will be notably weakened against the Vesuviani as Jonathan Zebina, Nicola Legrottaglie and Mauro Camoranesi are all suspended.

In training today, Ranieri experimented with Zdenek Grygera, Guglielmo Stendardo, Giorgio Chiellini and Cristian Molinaro in defence and Mohamed Sissoko and Tiago Mendes as a midfield partnership.

it could be worse, to me it initially looked like a hamstring injury and they can take around 6 weeks or longer to heal!

so a month in which there are international fixtures isnt too bad.

I juts hope Ranieri plays Tiago because we will really need his passing now!

Zanetti trains with squad again

Juventus have restarted training this afternoon in Vinovo, to prepare next Sunday's game against Parma. The squad was missing six internationals (Buffon, Camoranesi, Iaquinta, Grygera, Sissoko and Trezeguet), but on the plus side had Cristiano Zanetti back. Indeed the midfielder trained regularly with his team mates, taking part in the warm-up, in the individual technique exercises, in the seven-a-side match and in the aerobic training, so he basically did all the training that was scheduled for today's session. Del Piero and Zebina, however, trained only in the gym.

Juve get Zanetti boost

Juventus midfielder Cristiano Zanetti has made an early return from injury and is set to play against Parma this weekend.

The former Inter man limped off during the Old Lady’s game against Genoa on March 9 with a first-degree thigh strain.

Initial reports suggested that the damage would take at least 25 days to heal, but the 30-year-old has recovered in record time.

Zanetti looked fully fit in training today and even found the net in the five-a-side game that ended the session.

Raffaele Palladino is ready to step in should Zanetti not be ready, in which case Mauro Camoranesi would probably play in the centre alongside Mohamed Sissoko.

Juve’s international players returned to the fold today but had a light session and Gigi Buffon worked in the gym.

Defender Jonathan Zebina trained on his own due to an injury with Jorge Andrade and Marco Marchionni the only absentees.

Zanetti suffers thigh relapse Thursday 3 April, 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Juventus midfielder Cristiano Zanetti is back on the sidelines after a recurrence of the thigh injury he picked up against Genoa.

The former Inter man was injured at Marassi at the start of the month, but he seemed to have shaken off his problem in record time to return at a crucial juncture of the season.

However, Zanetti reported a pain at the start of training yesterday and was unable to play any part.

The 30-year-old is now set to miss out on this weekend’s trip to Palermo’s Stadio Renzo Barbera and is likely to focus on recovering in time for the Old Lady’s crunch match against Milan on April 12.

Hasan Salihamidzic and Mohamed Sissoko are the likely midfield pair with Mauro Camoranesi and Pavel Nedved on the wings.

Meanwhile, on-loan stopper Guglielmo Stendardo is celebrating passing an exam in administrative law at the University of Rome with flying colours. He is now just three exams away from completing his degree in law.
