Not sure why everyone is so surprised by his ability to create for his teammates. He had 10-20 assists every year at Madrid, and is the all-time leader CL assists. Dude has always been a great passer and team player when he feels supported by the team. Could have twice as many assists as he already has. Brilliant player.

Modric at 25 was nowhere near as good as he is now.
Modric has been operating at a similar level to he is now since about 2011. He just didn't have the platform or surrounding team to really showcase his talents. As soon he joined Spurs and played a few games, the talent was obvious and he was linked to a number of big clubs straight away. He was under-utilised in his first season at Madrid by Mourinho and perhaps even misused (sometimes being placed out on the RW in a 4-2-3-1) but he's been the best CM in the world since the 13/14 season and class before that.

This is getting ridiculous

Soccer experts from 90 countries have collaborated to designate Modricchampion.

He gets this award after winning UEFA's Best Player of the Year Award and FIFA's 'The Best.'

Modric was also first on GOAL 50's annual list, and is the main favourite to win the 2018 Ballon d'Or.

Behind Modric and Leo Messi, are Eden Hazard (114 points), Kevin de Bruyne (36), Neymar (18), Paul Pogba (14), Christian Eriksen (10), Miralem Pjanic (7), James Rodriguez ( 7), Cristiano Ronaldo (5), Isco Alarcon (3), Jorge Luiz Frello 'Jorginho' (3), Kylian Mbappe (3), Ivan Rakitic (3), Philippe Coutinho (2), Toni Kroos (1) and Thiago Alcantara (1).

Thibaut Courtois, on the other hand, becomes the third Belgian goalkeeper to win this award after the achievements of Jean-Marie Pfaff (1986) and Michel Preud'homme (1994).

Courtois, best goalkeeper
With 181 points in the IFFHS 2018 goalkeeping standings, the Belgian goalkeeper is followed by Hugo Lloris (109), Gianluigi Buffon (59), Keylor Navas (58), Jan Oblak (49), Marc-Andre ter Stegen (49), Alisson Ramses Becker (36), David De Gea (33), Danijel Subasic (23), Manuel Neuer (20), Jordan Pickford (11), Kasper Schmeichel (9), Ederson (6), Samir Handanovic (4), Franco Armani (3), Igor Akinfeev (1), Guillermo Ochoa (1), Denis Onyango (1) and Yann Sommer (1).
