Mr Capello, may i just ask why is it that time and time again you do things like this? Only coppa italia you say? Well it a situation where like the Cl you have to win matches to qualify and if you do not , well you are out, not like the league where you can play for the draw and still make up for that later
This was a shambles, the whole match was a nonsense.
Too many questions, whats wrong with playing Dp, Nedved and Mutu in a 3 man attack instead of both Mutu and Nedved on the wings?
What is the point of playing Vieria and Giannichedda in a game we had to win by 2 goals?
What was the point in bringing on Emerson for Giannichedda? It didnt matter if we lost 3-0 or we won 1-0 we would still be out , so why not go for broke?
No, its because its not in your nature to play attacking football, its better to be safe than sorry, is that it?
Why were Camo and Trez missing? Please do not say we have a game on sunday cos Udinese are hardly a threat. You cannot keep resting forward players and continually play Thuram and Cannavaro as there aint no cover for them.

Zlatan is having a very bad time of it, he is not in form and thn when he starts , he comes accross a quite inept referee who was just hopeless all night.
He gave a very harsh penalty and disallowed a quite legit Totti goal cos all Totti did was to outmuscle Balzaretti to head in the ball with Thuram, Cannavaro and Zebina missing in action

Yes we went out of the cup was it really necessary for Vieria and Thuram to be acting as thugs after the game, i mean Thuram is the captain for christsakes and fyi Thuram, it was Nedved whom accidentally hit you not Perrotta.
Although Perrotta and Totti were quite disgraceful in their continual playacting all nite.

Abiatti: nothing to do but still managed some silly things 5.5
Zebina: was not a good return to former club and of cos he gets injured yet again with noone in sight 5
Zambrotta: By far the best of the back line 6.5
Thuram: was better than his previous performances but its worrying that he and cannavaro were completely missing whenever Roma crossed the ball into our box 6
Cannavaro: ditto
Balzaretti: his worst performance so far in a juve shirt, even if i think he has been unfairly dropped to make way for Zebina 5
Vieria: His best performance in a long time as he was fabulous and far and away our best player on the night 7.5
Giannichedda: Did what he had to do without any fuss 6
Mutu: the only thing he did well was to score the penalty 5
Zalayeta : an awful day at the office 4
Nedved : was not in the game at all 4.5
Zlatan: well was on for just 20 mins
Dp: came on and did absolutely nothing of note 5

Did this game not remind you guys of Liverpool last season, where we just pumped the ball in the air to a small man like Dp? I canmnot understand why we could not play to the strenghts of Dp, Nedved and Mutu by playing it on the ground.
I mean trying to go to the byline to cross for short men is just stupid

I can accept that Roma has eliminated us from this tournament, but I am not too thrilled at the tactical ineptness of one Fabio Crapello, and the Swedish goon we have playing as a forward/troublemaker named Zlatan Ibrahimovic

To begin with, we needed 2 goals to get by Roma

instead of playing Mutu up front with Zlatan, Cap opts to play a complete waste of space and money, Marcelo Zalayeta. This guy hasnt shown ANYTHING AT ALL when he's been used this season, and Cap puts him into a game where we need not one, but 2 goals to progress

Things got out of hand when Zlatan decides to not only blast the ball at Totti when he's down on the ground, but grabs Dacourt in a meanacing fashion ala the WWE, and expects not to be punished for the incident.

I've said it time and time again, this guy will get a red card at the most unopportune time. This time its a Coppa Italia game, next time could be a crucial CL game...nice job fool

With both teams down a player, and seeing as though we lost a striker, you would think that DP would enter the game...not so fast

Then I thought, we need 2 damn goals, Crap should field Mutu next to Zala up top , and go with 3 in the midfield......not so fast

Crap does neither, keeps the offensively inept Zala up top as a lone striker, and Mutu out on the wing....what a fucking joke !!!

"WE NEED 2 GOALS", I kept thinking..... and finally in the second half, DP subs out the waste of time, space, and money Zalayeta, and Giannichedda gets subbed by....Emerson ???!! Where is Camo ?? WE NEED GOALS !!!

Now, I would have thought, it would be the perfect time for the DP/Mutu partnership to take off, since Mutu just scored a PK, and we needed 1 more goal.....not so fast

DP was played as a lone striker, and wasnt too effective. He was left to make something happen with 4-5 Roma players around him at all times.

You CANNOT score goals with a lone striker, when the other team has 9 guys behind the ball...it just doesnt happen !!!!

And it didnt !!!!!


Abbiati- made a nice save off a Totti freekick, but was rarely tested afterwards 6

Zebina- he was doing ok until he was injured 6

Ballzaretti- tough start, but got better as the game progressed. Still learning 6

Zambrotta- proved once again, he's better on the left 6

Canavarro- played his usual game 6

Thuram- today was an improvement 6

Viera- had a few shots on net, one clanged the post, and was active out there...improving 6

Giannichedda- he had a fair game, did what was asked of him 5.5

Emerson- shows strength in the midfield, but I would like to see him help the offense more 6

Nedved- played physical, but wasnt too much of a goal- scoring threat today...probably because he is playing out of position 5.5

Mutu- I am soo... aggravated that he is wasted on the wing. Scored the PK 6

Zalayeta- he has NO strength in the box, and is a waste...cant understand WHY he is still with Juve 4

Del piero- he is not a lone striker, could not make things happen alone 5.5

Capello- shows everyone that he cant make the right decisions when the game is in the balance. Stupid tactics and substitutions speak for themselves. 3

Roma played really well and we have to all agree on this matter. Roma showed Charechter and determination.
Now, about Juventus. As a starting formation it was ok
Abbiati, Balzareti, Thuram, Cannavaro, Zebina, Mutu, Vieira, Giannicheda, Nedved, Ibra and Zalayata.
First note: WTF was that Ibra? That was totally unprofessional. And when in the min 15!! We should be thankful that Dacourt got pissed off and hit Zlatan. Otherwise we would've been playing 1 man short the whole game. Never the less, despite both teams were playing with 10 men you really cannot tell. The 10 men played more which made it look as if it was 11 V 11. So hats off for both teams. With Zlatan's red card we continued playing like this:

He subbed Zebina and brought in Zambrotta = Good. Zebina got injured plus was playing really bad. We needed a proper offensive RB.
He subbed Giannicheda who was playing ok and brought in Emerson. Now, call me what you like but subbing a deffesive mid fielder and bringing in another deffensive midfielder (especially if the first was playing ok) is not creative at all.
Bringing out Zalayata for DP, again same as emerson. Nothing changed.
We ended up playing the last 30 min:

I know you will say that the deffense will be weak, but for god sakes, its the last 20-30 min of the match and you have to score or you get illuminated. With Lazio Giannicheda played many times as CB and was quite good at it. With tonights conditions he should've became a front sweeper. Zambrotta will support both deffense and offense and you will have two strikers infront of two play makers Neddy and Adrian.
But what Capello did tonight was pure uncreativity. Sure its just the Coppa, but this gets me worried about his tactics in more important games. We can't continue playing with 4 deffender and 2 deffensive midfielders when we are despritly seaking a win.

That has to be my biggest knock on Capello. When we need a goal we play the same long ball foolishness time and time again, even when Dp is upfront and not Zlatan, Zala or Trez. He is so friggin inflexible in terms of his tactical set-up. We get the ball forward to Zlatan, he holds it up and gets it to Trez, or we play down the flanks for the wingers to cross to Trez. This is all we do and you CANNOT win the CL playing like this. As you said, play it on the ground and let DP, Neddy and Mutu prove why they're good players.

9 Ibrahimovic - stupid incident, though i think ref overreacted, might have been differant result with 11 men...
10 Del Piero - should have played from start with ibra, what was cap thinking? ibra-dp worked in the league last season...well looked nervous when played but he had not much support....
11 Nedved - good and very lively...
14 Balzaretti - good, maybe should work a little crossing in the trainings but soon might be a starter...
18 Mutu - good, scored a goal, was lively, but wrong position(capy capy...)
19 Zambrotta - should have played from the start
21 Thuram - not a good game
23 Giannichedda - not a starting player, olivera should have start...if not emerson...

capello- very bad, bad tactics, movement in front of the pitch also bad, very slow and not creative....got owned by spaggetti spalletti....

Capello never ceases to amaze me...it is wondrous how he maintains that by forever "building from the back" he will make the goals come. It's baffling really how he so steadfastly believes that the best attack is defence, especially after the lessons we've learned (notably Liverpool last year, like Denco mentioned). This team not only needs a directness in its play at times, its also optimal that Capello starts to think direct instead of going the long way around when the obvious choice is also the best one.
