[Coppa Italia] JUVENTUS 3-2 Atalanta [11th January, 2017] (12 Viewers)

Watched the whole game for a second time now.

Atalanta played quite well.

Giasperini is really doing something with that team and considering how good they have been this year, it was not an easy match for us.

They play positive, pressing, attacking football, and it especially showed in the first 20 minutes of the 1st half ,where they pressed us really high. They almost had the same amount of possession as us, which shows that they came to play, not defend.

Positives:

Passing/movement:
good offensive understanding and link up play. Its really starting to show now: combinations between pjanic and the strikers (especially dybala) is getting more and more promising.

Marchisio looks to be back at his best: he Bossed that midfield like a real Lieutenant. Only needs to get his Rifle shooting aim back and were in for another great season from him.

Wingplay:
Our backs were active and positive, the way we like them. I can see the 3-5-2 being a deadly formation once we reach full potential and injured players recover.

Negatives:

Mentality If there is one thing i feel we need to improve, its the way we finish games: too often the lack of concentration makes us concede stupid goals, like the game against Lyon. Its a mentality thing, and needs to be fixed as soon as possible, especially in Champions League as teams are deadly to these sort of slip ups.

This however, was a cup match so i can understand that they slacked off a bit.

Probably our best game so far in terms of offensive performance especially that it was against decent opposition. Finally we see interesting combinations and good build up instead of individuals going solo and trying to improvise something.

I dont care that the defense was leaky, we have no problems getting back into good defensive shape. Collective attacking movements and passing is what needed a big improvement and maybe today was a sign of that beginning to happen.

the goal leak was mainly due to juve switching off / putting their foot off the gas ... if we gave our full concentration it would've been a clean sheet. although konko's goal was a rather freaky one

“When the game looks like it’s safe, we have to keep a clean sheet. We defended badly on the goals, but other than those we didn’t really need tough saves. Atalanta had pushed forward, but if we defended in an organised and determined fashion, we wouldn’t have allowed them to score.”

Marko Pjaca made his comeback after three months out with a fracture.

“He had 15 minutes tonight and we’ll see how he trains. He returned after 100 days out, he’s young and tonight learned that it’s tough to play in Italy.”

Jesus christ you annoying kunt, take some fukkin blame for once. It's Allegri who takes the momentum out of the game by taking off ALL the creative players and then puts in ALL the defensive players he possibly can. Switching Dybala, Pjanic and Marchisio (the trio that started almost each and every attack) to Pjaca, Sturaro and Bonucci isn't going to keep the attacking momentum up. And before the usual wankers start calling this whining since we won, it's constructive criticism. The first 75 minutes was absolutely beautiful, and I can't remember us playing such attractive and boldly attacking football in a long time. It all flowed really well. But Allegri has a huge blame on himself for allowing such a situation where the team takes the foot off the gas and has to defend a 1 goal lead. Sturaro, Rincon, Hernanes, Bonucci, Rugani, Asamoah, Lichst, Barzagli..... that's effectively 8 defenders playing behind the ball since none of those are good creative players and the opposition is keeping pressure. It was up to recently heavily injured Pjaca to kick start all attacks alone.

yes its true he switched to a defensive strategy but that doesn't mean those defenders should get complacent. Usually if you decide to protect a lead by parking the bus you park the fucking bus you dont sit around and let the opposition tear you apart. We leaked those goals when our whole strategy was to shut everything out. This is good reason to be pissed. Its the equivalent of explicitly going all out attack and creating zero chances regardless of whether or not all out attack is the right strategy in that stage of the game.

Stated off great and made it look too easy. We missed tons of chances on the way in the first. Some changes with the weekend fixture in thought, some complacency and we put Atalanta back in the game. I am not bothered that we stepped off the gas and we behaved like we did in the second, it only made the match even more entertaining. Apart from the monster performance from Mandzukic, I was mostly impressed by Lichtsteiner who played a great game, he took me two or three years back. Asamoah at the left side is a refreshing option that has just appeared and the farther we play Pjanic up the pitch the better he delivers. Last but not least, Dybala what a player!
