Buffon will play, says Capello
Wednesday 30 November, 2005
Juventus boss Fabio Capello has confirmed that Gigi Buffon will return to action in Thursday’s Coppa Italia tie at Fiorentina.

The goalkeeper has yet to appear this season after undergoing shoulder surgery in the summer, but will be handed the gloves in Tuscany.

"Buffon will be in goal and he will be joined in the team by those who haven’t played that much this season," said the tactician.

The Italian international, who has been replaced by Christian Abbiati over the last three months, has been in full training for almost three weeks.

But Capello concedes that there are still question marks regarding the world’s best shot-stopper.

"This will be Gigi’s first real test and we will see how he feels after the game," Capello continued on Wednesday.

"He knows that things are different in a game than to a training session. In the latter, your teammates respect you, while your opponents just want to score past you."

Juventus, given their great rivalry with the Viola, are expected to receive a hostile reception on Thursday and then again on Sunday when the two teams meet in Serie A.

But Capello, whose side survived a similar experience at Roma a few weeks ago, doesn’t seem too concerned.

"We hope to find the sun and little wind," he smiled. "Fiorentina fans have always had a particular stance when it comes to Juve.

"But in order for that club to become a force in the Italian game then their supporters will have to change their comportment."

Despite Abbiati's shaky performances we've had a brilliant defensive record this season..it'd be cruel irony if we started slipping up at the back with Buffon back.

Portieri: Buffon, Chimenti, Abbiati, Bonnefoi.
Difensori: Chiellini, Kovac, Pessotto, Criscito, Balzaretti, Zambrotta, Thuram, Gladstone, Zebina, Cannavaro.
Centrocampisti: Vieira, Emerson, Nedved, Camoranesi, Mutu, Blasi, Giannichedda, Olivera.
Attaccanti: Ibrahimovic, Del Piero, Trezeguet, Zalayeta.

Olivera is selected! and why 4keepers?
I read Buffon would play...

Buffon,
Balza, Kovac, Gladst, Pessotto
Blasi, Gianni, Olivera,
Mutu
DP Zala
Nice offensive line up. :agree: , midfield not that balanced though

Good to see Oli back in the squad with Zala, the Uruguayan Connection

I dont think we have to win tonight... win is always good but Serie A is more important then a tournament with the level of Inter and Lazio, coppa italia is for the teams who don't have any chanse at the title....let the idiots from lombardia win this iron shit cup....... JUVENTUS CAMPIONI D'ITALIA 2005-2006!!!!!!
But it is a good match for buffon to return....but look out for Toni.....
And i have a big respect for Abbiati... he did very very well!!
GRAZIE ABBIATI!!!

FORZA JUVE!!!!!!!!!!! ODIO TORINO, MILAN, INTER, LAZIO, ROMA!!!
