Antonio Conte has set the record straight regarding recent comments made concerning refereeing performances in Juventus games. The manager, speaking at a pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday’s visit of Catania, also appealed for another red-hot atmosphere to spur his team onto victory against the Rossazzurri.
The 42-year-old began:* “I expressed an opinion at the Tardini, and I did so without contesting the individual incidents. I have never asked for favours, simply equality of treatment.
“As far as tomorrow’s concerned, I’d like to encourage the fans to buy a ticket and come to the stadium. We know how important Juventus Stadium is to us and the supporters are fundamental.”
Conte was then quizzed on the team’s state of mind and if the Bianconeri had the required strength to emerge victorious from their battles both on and off the field. The manager used his response to pay tribute to the progress made since his return to Turin.
*“From the start of the year onwards, I’ve always spoken about building a house and putting the foundations in place.
“I’d say that this house has developed relatively quickly. The fact that we find ourselves considered as Milan’s rivals fills us with pride and satisfaction.
“It’s the first time that the majority of this squad has been in such a position. We need to show great enthusiasm, high levels of adrenaline and try to maintain our competitive nature.”
The previous two fixtures have seen the Bianconeri create a host of chances but fail to put the ball in the back of the net. Conte, however, remains calm and believes his men will soon rediscover their killer instinct in front of goal.
*“I would be much more concerned if I didn’t have the statistics at hand. We’re the team that shoots the most and the team that, alongside Milan and Roma, enjoys the most possession in the opponents’ half.
“These are important statistics which show that the structure works, the organisation works and the players do what they need to.
“It’s a moment in which, for various reasons, we’re struggling to hit the target. But I’m confident that we’ll get out of it. I have great belief in my players who are doing extraordinary things.”
