why the hell didnt Giovinco start?the guy was class for the azzurini the other day
Vannucchi is a player of real quantity and more importantly owned by Empoli. So it makes a lot of financial sense for Empoli to start their man over Giovinco unless our little star can demonstrate himself to be far superior player. I dont like loaning young players; they are rarely given chance to grow unless they can contribute immediately. In that sense, co-ownership is actually better arrangements, and even if we have to pay large amount of money to bring kids back, we ensure that these kids actually do get fair chance to make at the pro league. So you gets likes of Criscito, who benefits from regular play, Juve benefits by only needing to buy half of the share, and Genoa also benefited by nurturing the kid.

Maybe the price we paid for Iaquinta might be excessive. But I like the co-ownership deal on Paolucci with Udinese. Udinese knows how to bring up a player through the ranks. Paolucci will have excellent environment to grow, especially if Asamoah Gyan or more likely, Quagliarella makes big money move next year. I say kid should get his head down, dont get discouraged and look forward to developing himself so he can get first team shirt next year. Because it is not a loan, Udinese will give him chance at somestage as long as he is good enough.

mirante did play, he was brought on in the 67th minute
Mirante seemd to be at partly fault for the qualizer by Siena. He got flat footed too much even if it was difficult to save. Castellazzi has vast experience playing reguarly in Serie A eversince his days with Brescia. I think it will be difficult for Mirante to dislodge him.

De Ceglie seems to make the next step at Siena. I'm very happy about that, though I'm still not too sure if he'll ever be good enough for a Juve team aiming for Scudetti.

Meanwhile, it is coming clear that loaning out Giovinco wasn't such a good ides. He is not given enough playing time at Empoli so far, maybe not even more than he would have had with Juve this season. My only hope that at some point, they can't leave him on the bench because he is too good.

Don't know about the other players much atm, coz I did not have the opportunity to watch many games so far.

De Ceglie has been playing really well for Siena and i like his progress, as hes establishing himself there.Whether he could be a starter for Juve is another case and we will know that as the season unfolds.

Cagni sends in the reserves Tuesday 18 September, 2007

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Empoli are preparing for their historic UEFA Cup bow against Zurich, but Coach Gigi Cagni has revealed that he is ready to send out a reserve side.

The Tuscan minnows stunned the world of calcio by grabbing a UEFA Cup spot with a seventh-placed finish last term.

Now European football is on its way to a town with under 50,000 inhabitants, but Serie A is clearly still Cagni’s priority.

“I have been watching several DVDs of Zurich because they aren’t a side I know much about,” the experienced tactician stated on Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli

“All my players would like to be out there in Switzerland, but I have already told them that I intend to field some lads who haven’t found space in the side yet.

“We want to get through to the next round, but we are playing without pressure because the League remains our main objective and our minds will be on Napoli straight after the game.”

Empoli have just two draws to their name and will go in search of their first win as they host Napoli this weekend.
