Ranieri can only shoulder a pretty small portion of the blame for this one.

He should have started Poulsen, but did well after that.

He can't do much when defenders make stupid mistakes and forwards miss several chances.

He wasn't coach when Grygera was bought.

We already owned Molinaro.

Mellberg is only backup.

And we don't know how much say he was given on the signing of these players, so I don't see how he can be criticised.

If you must criticise someone for the signing of these players, go to the Secco thread.

No you can't expect an oily Abramovic to know a thing about the players who'd fit the necessities and the priorities of the club. The coach is all responsible for this.

Even if Ranieri had asked the board to sign new players and the board had failed to grant him what he wanted, he's still the one to blame. Why would you go on working with a board who doesn't give a damn about your demands?

I just don't think we know enough about what goes on behind the scenes to be able to criticise Ranieri for many of the signings.

He has done more than enough wrong that we know was his fault without speculating about other stuff.

Both Chiellini and Mellberg were bad so it is not the coach's fault. Mellberg is a sub and still is, no matter how much you want him to look as if Ranieri brought him in as a starter.

yes king ale i understand what you mean but i think its different between italy and england.n in england its all up to the coach but in italy the coach, the sporting director the owner and even the owner's mum get involved! so they are all to blame!

every loss is a collective effort

there is no way it can be solely attributed to one man but in this case Ranieri shouldn't receive the majority of the blame

Just about this game because the talk about the signings process is fruitless as we do not know what happens in the background.

I understand why he started Tiago even though he didn't perform well over the past few games, but it was a gamble that didn't pay off. We wanted to retain as much of the possession as we could and attack the Chievo defense. Tiago was playing well with Portugal and he is obviously first choice ahead of Poulsen, so he got the nod and it failed.

Other than that, he did very well with his subs and his hands were tied. We needed to score 2 goals and we did. Lets not forget these were rookie mistakes on all three goals, he can't do much about that.

Ppl talk about these players are not quality players, that is not the point. Its defending 101 ( don't let the ball bounce or boot the ball away if your under pressure or just focus on defending in the final minutes of a game), he can't do much about that.
