Juventus captain Alessandro del Piero paid tribute to under pressure coach Claudio Ranieri after yesterday's 1-0 victory over Napoli.
Del Piero had a hand in Vincenzo Iaquinta's late winner and said at the final whistle: "The coach is doing a fantastic job. The results speak for themselves. Then, this is a team and the team is the one that will decide the club's future.

"He must stay calm, there is full support for him."

I like 4-3-1-2 as a general rule, but our full backs aren't good enough to play this system. We would end up with no width to our play and it would be easy for a decent defence to close us down.

Ranieri keeps Empoli focus

Juventus Coach Claudio Ranieri insists that he is focused on tomorrow’s game against Empoli rather than looking ahead to the weekend’s battle with Inter.

The Bianconeri are building a commanding cushion in the Champions League qualification zone, but they need to ensure maximum points against lowly Empoli before the Derby d’Italia.

There have been suggestions that Ranieri will rest star striker David Trezeguet ahead of the trip to San Siro, but the Juve boss certainly isn’t taking the Tuscans lightly.

“We will have to see whether or not it is a good idea to rest Trezeguet,” he said cautiously.

“But these are three very important points for us and I’m just thinking about Empoli and the best way to beat them rather than looking ahead.

“Empoli will grit their teeth and battle for every ball - we can’t afford any lapses in concentration.

“We want to improve and I am always working towards the best result. At this rate we should finish the season in a good position.”

Despite the Cadetti champions’ impressive season, Ranieri has come in for some harsh criticism and there are rumours that he will be replaced by World Cup winning boss Marcello Lippi at the end of the campaign.

“I think that talk has to stop,” Ranieri rasped. “I don’t worry myself with these things. I am calm and people can write what they want.”

The former Parma boss concluded with some words of encouragement for midfielder Tiago Mendes, who has made a marked improvement since being lambasted early in the season

Alessandro Del Piero has backed Claudio Ranieri to lead Juventus to glory.

The coach has been under-fire in recent weeks but he saw his side strengthen their hold on third place with a late win over Napoli on Sunday evening.

The Bianconeri captain believes that the 56-year-old deserves a large slice of the credit for leading the Turin giants back to the upper reaches of Serie A.

The 33-year-old said: "The boss is doing a wonderful job and results speak for themselves. "Ranieri has the full support of all the players."

Del Piero added: "The hunger to win saw us through in the end but Napoli defended very well."

The result left Juve four points clear of fourth-placed Fiorentina and just as importantly eight in front of AC Milan.
