Juve call crisis meeting
Wednesday 8 October, 2008
Juventus' directors, players and staff held a meeting today to stress the club's faith in Coach Claudio Ranieri.

The Old Lady have suffered a miserable few weeks with disappointing draws against Sampdoria, Catania and BATE Borisov and last weekend's defeat at the hands of Palermo.

The Press and many fans have turned on Ranieri, but the Turin giants have stressed that they will be keeping faith with the ex-Parma man, in spite of rumours they are lining up Roma Coach Luciano Spalletti.

At 9.40am this morning, Juve director Jean-Claude Blanc and sporting director Alessio Secco arrived at Vinovo to talk to the players.

Ranieri was also present and the only absentees were those members of the squad away on international duty.

Ranieri: The team are with me

Thursday 9 October, 2008 Channel 4

Juventus boss Claudio Ranieri claims he doesn't fear for his job because the dressing room is united behind him.

The pressure is rising for the Old Lady tactician after a series of poor results, culminating in last weekend's defeat at home to Palermo.

The media have been quick to suggest that Ranieri is facing the axe, but Juve's directors held a meeting with the players yesterday at Vinovo to stress their faith in the Roman boss.

I'm not worried about the dressing room,” Ranieri claimed. “I can assure you that I have 100 per cent support and nobody is causing rows with me.

“I have a certain level of experience and the only thing that is worrying me is the number of injuries and players away on international duty.

“We had a good pre-season and the newcomers immediately settled in well - I'm very satisfied with their efforts.

“At the start of the campaign I saw a good and convincing Juve. Then after a bit we looked less secure in our management of the ball.

We need to find our character that allowed us to get out of Serie B and I just ask the players to stick with this project, which is based on the development of youth.

Juventus' next test after the international break is a crunch match against Napoli at the Stadio San Paolo.

Alonso 'too slow' for Juve
Ranieri claims Spaniard lacks pace
By Chris Burton Last updated: 9th October 2008

Alonso: Too slow for Juve

Claudio Ranieri claims he did not sign Xabi Alonso this summer because the Spaniard is too slow.

Juventus were strongly linked with a swoop for the Liverpool midfielder during the close-season as the Reds became embroiled in a long-running transfer saga over Aston Villa's Gareth Barry.

The Serie A giants held discussions with Liverpool in regards to the Euro 2008 winner, but ultimately decided to turn their attentions elsewhere.

Perplexed

"He was a player we wanted," Ranieri admitted.

"But he is a player, who even though he is an extraordinary man and a great professional, left me perplexed by the slowness of his movement in midfield.

"In the midfield of Rafa Benitez's Liverpool, where all of them are little soldiers, he finds himself in a fantastic position.

"But in our midfield, he would have found it hard to support the midfield line seeing as Mauro Camoranesi and Pavel Nedved are not players that come back to give support like Liverpool's wingers."

come on give the guy a break,he is a visionary. when asked if he wanted a composed, classy, inteligent midfield player that could help unlock opposition defenders,he said "no,get me Poulsen instead.i need someone who can run fast and chase all teh balls that the defenders aimlessly lump forward towards the attackers"
