We should play him as regista, covered by matuidi or stuart or bet... and play pjnaic in the more advanced dm role
Yeah, Marchisio's best role and Pjanic's old mezzala role at Roma.

Pjanic-Marchisio-Matuidi

Hard to understand and accept why he rarely plays. It's been two years, and his competition is Khedira. Khedira is only better at defending set pieces.

I just think in a 3 man midfield MAtuidi, Pjanic Marchisio is the most balanced that we have, MAtuidi is the destroyed who never stops running, Pjanic is our main creative outlet from the deep, and Marchisio is a combination of a bit of both these players, he puts in more of a shift that khedira and can also be used as a secondary outlet against some teams.

To me it seems Allegri considers Claudio to be a 2nd hand option, during the last month Claudio sat out both Spurs games, Torino derby and Lazio game, but played Udinese at home and Coppa return leg against Atalanta.

His competition for Pjanič position Bentancur has been riding the bench like crazy, so I think it's safe to say that Marchisio will play in CL knockouts in place of Pjanič if fit, but I highly doubt we're going to see Matuidi-Marchisio-Pjanič midfield, Khedira is still well ahead of him in the pecking order and March is a tough month to change this, Claudio would need to hit serious form to get the nod.

He played well, but it was also Udinese at home.

Hopefully he builds on this, and Max keeps giving him minutes!
He did pretty well in all matches and minutes which he played.
We keep possession with him around much better and he defends well, his positioning is very good also.
It is a very strange why he is not playing.

He's had a couple of sub-par matches, but I agree, if he's healthy he definitely should have gotten more minutes by now.

It does seem like there may be more to the situation than just his health. The biggest reason why we've been so short in midfield this season is this guy lack of playing time. Pretty sure management thought he'd be much more of a factor before the season began, which is likely why they didn't reinforce the midfield a bit more.

Allegri said multiple times he prefers a physical presence in his mezzala's/B2b, his nr 8, should be able to win header or run down opponents/run forward join attacks in box (his tactical thesis as student coach describing nr 8 types when he was becoming coach fits this narrative). All things thats not Marchisio style. So he is pretty much seen as Pjanic backup, and Pjanic isnt moving away from that regista role thats perfect for him in freeroaming CM/AM ever again under Allegri most likely.

yup i only saw a snippet of it online , and he prefers his midfield to be a 8 like khedira, a 4 regista , and a 10

I mentioned this in my long post on the khedira thread recently
