Marchisio: 'Experiments confusing'
Sunday 20 June, 2010
Claudio Marchisio has blamed Marcello Lippi’s tactical experiments for “creating confusion” in the Italy squad.

The Juventus midfielder has played as a trequartista and out wide on the left so far in this tournament.

“At the World Cup many of our players are not in their usual positions because the Coach is performing many experiments,”
he told RAI.

“Changing so much has also prompted us to make mistakes and is creating confusion among us, but the Coach has the right experience to take us forward in this situation.”

Lippi fielded the same players for the 1-1 draw with Paraguay and the identical result against New Zealand, but in a 4-2-3-1 and then a 4-4-2 system.

“We are a little downbeat, because we thought that we would get through this group a lot easier,” continued Marchisio.

“Admittedly it was a mistake to put in so many crosses against a New Zealand side that is strong in the air.”

Andrea Pirlo could be back from his calf strain for the final group game against Slovakia.

“If I was to give up my place in the side, I’d be safe in the knowledge that a world class player would be replacing me. It wouldn’t be a problem.”

It's simple really. Either play him on his natural position where he shines, or don't play him at all. It's not fair for him and even for those who are better than him on the wing.

In my opinion Marchisio has only had a handful of really good games for Juventus in his natural position. Most often I find him quite average or a bit above that. To expect him to shine for Italy out of position is really unrealistic. I find that fans here tend to overrate homegrown young talent. Marchisio, Giovinco, De Ceglie(can't believe people fell for him) etc. Marchisio of course has room to improve but I don't think he is world-class at the moment.

for fuck sake u guys are driving me crazy.. first national tournaments will never be a good environment to judge players anymore.. second now let's see how lippi done his job here. ok he picked the most hard-workers in Seria-A and now he is trying to put them in positions to cover the non-playmaker position and now it's time to sacrifice Marchisio. give me a break i will never take this world cup seriously to judge players. if u want to judge player watch him in his league that's it.
as for Marchiso he is very good player in good age too with room to improve.

Hey guys plz tell me if i am wrong.

As i remember Montolivo used to play in the wing during his time in Atalanta,am i right?

Also that season which was 04/05 and was also his 1st,was the most impressive season for him,am i right?

If i was right and Riccardo is capable of playing in the wing so why Lippi plays Marchisio as a winger?

Typical reactionary stuff here. Blaming Marchisio for poor performances while played out of position is just silly. Lippi takes all the blame.

Because he prefers Montolivo in the center, since Pirlo is out.

Bashing Marchisio is stupid. The guy shines when he plays in his natural position and now Lippi is asking him to play in a position that is not his own in a team that is not doing well. It's normal for him to fail there.

If you ask me he should have put him in the middle and built the team around him rather than having Marchisio play at the wing to accomodate the team.

this is like watching Juve all over again with Marchisio and Iaquinta on the wing and Canna in defence
will this season never end?
what's wrong with Italian coaches these days
Lippi has selected the wrong players to play a 4-4-2
no left winger and no creativity
he should have quit the nt permanently after the last wc
he would have been immortal but now he will leave us with a bad taste in our mouths
it's over Lippi, yu should have quit while you were ahead
