He can't play in that position, this much is clear. I thought it was crazy to take Marchisio off and go to 4-4-2 but keep Montolivo on instead, based on an equally average first half, the 4-4-2 would have suited Marchisio, but it turned out Montolivo did well in the second half.

Its weird that Lippi plays Marchi in a treq position due to his 'vision & passing ability' yet he'd rather use Monty in the Pirlo role instead of Claudio. Surely the vision & passing is what is needed to take over from Pirlo.
