He signed contract, thank you Claudio

Il Corriere Dello Sport claims Juve have extended Marchisio's current deal by a year. The previous agreement saw his contract expire in 2012, but it will now run until 2013.

In addition, the Italian giants have given the midfielder a better wage deal. He will now be earning €1 million per season in addition to other bonuses. However, his image rights have been handed over to the club.

Marchisio in black and white until 2014
It is truly a special moment for Claudio Marchisio. After an excellent 2008 (partially spent at Empoli), the young Turin born midfielder began the new year in the best of manners.

After having turned 23 last week, he deserved the front covers following a great performance against Fiorentina made even better by a first splendid goal in the Serie A.

Now is the time for the most awaited and deserved prizes: the renewal of his contract which will bind him to Juventus up to June 2014. This means that a relationship which started back in 1993 has been prolonged further. It was in 1993 that Claudio became part of the Juventus Football Nursery. After having been through all the ranks in the youth sector he was promoted to the first team during the 2006/07 season and after his experience at Empoli he returned finding himself a stable role as protagonist.

«I am very happy with the agreement reached – commented Marchisio- With this signature I am pursuing my career in a glorious and prestigious club which I consider to be a family. It is 14 years since I first wore this jersey and I hope to continue winning as I did in the youth section. I thank the club, the technical staff and my team-mates for the faith shown in me during the last months».

Alessio Secco, Juventus sports director, also expressed his satisfaction. After Giovinco and De Ceglie another youngster has strengthened his relationship with the club: «Claudio is an important element with regards to the strengthening of the squad. He is a player of great experience notwithstanding the fact that he has just turned 23. He is a product of our nursery and this underlines further the policy adopted by the club of building around youths of great quality».

Don't you guys think it a bit strange that Claudio who is 23 plays for a under-21 team
Nope, he is still eligible to play because when you start on a qfs for the u-21 euro tourno, 2 years back, you are qualified to actually play it when its time for it.

It was the same for the 2007 Euro-21, Chiellini, Palladino, Rosina, Pazzini, Montolivo, and et all all played despite being 23 year olds. Its the U-21 generation that qualified for there, so they finished what they started. But its their last U-21 gig after that.

Now, this new U-21 generation starts in march, the qualifiers for next tourno, and it will be only players born 88 and after. Meaning basically this whole current U-21 are goners, except Balotelli and Di Silvestri basically.
