He did well with both formation. In 3-5-2 he mainly distributing the ball to the far side, in 4-3-3 he's linking up with Chiello and Vucinic.
Esti (and Borriello)'s incompetence at the left side made him look worse at 3-5-2. Just compare how many times we lost possesion under Esti (and Borriello) with how many good link up play we did with Vucinic.
