I have to say I was very dissapointed with our performance last night.
We really played without any gameplan, and we looked brainless when going forward. No cohesion(sp?) whatsoever, while I thought we were famous for our teamwork?
We weren't compact at all, played too many longballs(to DP ?!?!?!) and all our attacks looked pointless.

After the first goal I immediately had the feeling, If we were to score goal it would not come from one of our attackers. And it seems I was right, Cannavaro scored the goal.

The second half looked a little better than the first half, it seemed our team finally woke up. Especially Thuram's and Cannavaro's performances were amazing in the second half, shame though... as it came two goals to late.
We were a lot more aggresive in the second half and finally started passing the ball around a bit.

Although Trezeguet's perfomance left a lot to be asked of, our overall teamplay looked better and more effective after he came on. We finally had someone we could play the ball to upfront. We suddenly had a target. As both Dp and Ibra(despite his strength and size) aren't really target man.

I also really disagreed with Capello starting Nedved, I'm 100% convinced we would've performed a lot better if we had the started with the 4-3-3 we had been 'excelling' with these last weeks.
Nedved lost the ball very often and simply did not look sharp. He DID have some very threatening passes once in a while though and besides the second half Camo he was the only threatening looking player.

Olivera would've been good against Liverpool as well, as some gutsy pace and dribbling seemed to be the thing that could hurt liverpool's defence(ala Camo's incredible dribble in the second half). So maybe we should give Olivera a chance as right winger upfront in the 4-3-3 next week.
I also like Zlatan's idea with Camoranesi as playmaker, I doubt we'll use it though..

So for next week I hope Capello reverts to the 4-3-3 (with or without nedved), or we should hope Nedved finds the fountain of youth and plays an incredible game.

Despite all of this, i'm still confident we can make it through. I know Capello can fix things and that we are able to play a lot more aggresive from start to end( ala vs madrid).

Well what do you think of this then eh...............during the minutes silence and the showing of the mosiac on The Kop

still think there will be no trouble in Turin?

You're having a laugh
Shadowfax replied you properly already, but I feel that I just need to comment too. This is taken from Redandwhitekop:

"We were in Block 125 right next to the Juve supporters. The overwhelming reaction of them to the mosaic was one of joy. They applauded, and seemed genuinely emotional about it. At the end of the game, I swapped my HJC scarf for a Curva Sud "Fighters" scarf, and shook hands with the bloke who I swapped it with. Both sets of supporters in the Anny Road stood at the end and applauded one another. Their fans were mostly excellent. Don't let the pictures of the few idiots above fool you. There were also some really fit Italian chicks there"

And as Shadowfax mentioned, they didn't raise their fingers during the mosaic. They raised fingers when the word friendship were shown.

We didn't play for 30 minutes.

I really thought that the players werent motivated on the field. All I saw was red. We couldn't get out of our own half. Then Goal. Then another Goal. 2-0. I couldn't believe it. But I have to admit 'Pool was great in the first half hour.

Then finally we started to wake up. The post for Zlatan, brilliant save denied DP, disallowed goal for DP...

you could argue about the last goal not being off side, but we all know football, and that's just the way things go.

The second half convinced me we will go through to the semis. The goal of course, but the manner also. When we put Liverpool under pressure they show their limit. Their defence isn't Milan's or Chelsea's, we can get past that.

In the first half, the belgian commentator kept on saying: can Liverpool keep this speed and pressure? Can they do that for 90 minutes? As a matter of fact they couldn't.

And I must admit I was impressed by the fans. The great songs sung by the whole crowd were really impressive, I can understand why the Reds play good at home.

But they wont have so much support in Delle Alpi

we can go through!!

I have a question: The scene between Alex and Troare inside the box where Alex fell, they didn't replay it much. Was that a foul? If someone has a clip to replay it please post.
As I have mentioned before Alex's goal was a perfect goal, not an offside. This is something about Alex I trully admire, he knows how to break offside tactics.

If you look into the match deeply, the main two players to blame are Emerson and Blasi. It was clear. Once Luca came in for Blasi the whole team looked different.. I think Blasi lacks the experience of the CL and a suprise performance by Emerson. No-one expected him to play that bad.

I think Del Piero was ok, Not amazing, nor great.. just ok. Same goes to Ibrahimovic. The reason I would give Del Piero more rating than Ibrahimovic is that I think he gave more during a less period.
On the first half, when our team was all bad (lacking midfield) he went back, took the ball, ran with it, tried to create chances, created a chance with nedved that he started it from the midfield then eventually lost it due to a very good save by the goaly, got few fouls and scored a good goal but was disallowed (by the way Pool players didn't even notice he was there you can see the surpirse on their face after the offside).
I believe that we should have given Del Piero more time with Pessotto on the field. He was still trying. With Nedveds weak performance (again he is not blamed he has been out for more than 2 months now since his first injury) we needed Del Piero.

What I recently (this season) don't like about trezeguet is that he does not notice when he is offside. Some times it is so clear that he is offside but does not back up. This is costy in crutial games.

Our biggest problem upfront was that Alex and Ibra are not used to having Nedved behind them. It was very clear. 4-4-2 was doing good when Alex was on the field, because it was like 4-3-2 (since Emerson was not playing well and Nedved was in his breakin in period after injury). When Del Piero got out it became more of 4-3-1-1 since trezeguet is just a finisher he is not supposed to create chances. This is why we did not score.
During Real's game we were playing 4-3-3 with DP/Ibra/Zala upfront. Then when we put in Trezeguet instead of DP it became 4-3-2-1 with Trezeguet as a FINISHER.

I did not say it was a bad call to bring out DP after the match ended. I said it exactly when the sub took place.

When DP was on the field we managed to penetrate their deffence whether it was DP or Ibra, when DP got out we only managed to score a goal which has nothing to do with Trezeguet nor DP. Cross from Luca and a header from Fabio. The midfieldd aka PESSOTTO controlled the match well but there was no enough power upfront for us to score more goals.

With Zebina's injury what do you think guys if we play liek this:
3-4-3
CHOICE 1:
Buffon
Thuram Cannavaro Montero
Camoranesi Emerson Nedved Zambrotta
Ibra Trezeguet Del Piero

OR

CHOICE 2:
3-4-1-2 :
Buffon
Thuram Cannavaro Montero
Camoranesi Emerson Pessotto Zambrotta
Nedved
Ibra Del Piero

OR

CHOICE 3:
4-3-2-1:
Buffon
Pessotto Thuram Cannavaro Zambrotta
Camoranesi Emerson Nedved
Ibra Del Piero
Trezeguet

OR

CHOICE 4:
4-3-1-2:
BUffon
Thuram Cannavaro Montero Zambrotta
Camoranesi Emerson Pessotto
Nedved
Ibra Del Piero

I THINK PESSOTTO SHOULD START AGIANST LIVERPOOL.

the delpiero goal was not an offside .... can someone please post it on multimedia so tht jackass can shutup .... and del piero performed better than zlatan this match not necessarily becoz he is better but because the liverpool defence concentrated more heavily on zlatan he was always covered by 2 or 3 players while del piero had one on him .. so i d give del piero a 6 and zlatan a 5.5 or dp a 6.5 and zlatan a 6... doesnt matter wht delpiero played better zlatan .. not because zlatan is bad.. but because didnt get a chance to be good...

Capello curses sluggish start Tuesday 5 April, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fabio Capello is cursing Juve’s sluggish start to the Champions’ League quarter-final, but believes they’ll eliminate Liverpool.

“We just didn’t play for the first half-hour,” noted the Coach after a 2-1 defeat at Anfield. “We had the chances after that and didn’t have the luck to take them, but for the opening 30 minutes Liverpool were the only team on the field."

"We weren’t aggressive or accustomed to the constant pressure they were putting on us, but once you push Liverpool then their defence does give way.”

Sami Hyypia took advantage of a defensive error from a set-piece – just as Real Madrid had done in the last round – before Luis Garcia turned in a spectacular goal from 30 metres.

“When you strike the ball from distance then you always hope it’ll end up like Luis Garcia’s goal,” smiled Capello. “This was a difficult game against a team that really plays its best on home turf. Our approach was wrong and I take responsibility, but I am satisfied with our performance after the break.”

The half-time substitution, introducing Gianluca Pessotto for Manuele Blasi, proved crucial as Juve were a different team after the break.

“Pessotto is the kind of player who can get the ball moving quickly, but above all covers Gianluca Zambrotta on his runs. I liked the performance in the second half and the team as a whole really got back on track after Liverpool’s second goal.”

Juventus must win at the Delle Alpi next Wednesday evening, but a 1-0 result would be enough to see them through on the away goals rule.

“Our finishing left something to be desired, but I believe that after our first half showing this counts as a positive result,” continued Capello. “It’s not easy to find the right mindset after being away for a while and the break for Easter and then the Serie A postponement didn’t help us.”

The Bianconeri could easily have drawn 2-2 at Anfield, as Zlatan Ibrahimovic hit the upright and Alessandro Del Piero had a perfectly good goal disallowed for offside. Pavel Nedved was also making his comeback after suffering head trauma against Madrid in late February.

“Every time Zlatan gets the ball he is crowded out by three players. He’s not very lucky with his finishing at the moment, but he is a very important player for Juventus. Nedved is a special player and I was fully satisfied with his performance. I’d say that for the final hour the whole team did well.”

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has not hidden his admiration for Capello and gave his view on beating the tactician.

“We were aggressive and needed that for a game like this against Juve,” said the Spaniard. “I am happy with the first half, but the Bianconeri were better after the break and maintained possession well. We have a week to get some injured players back, such as Jerzy Dudek, but it’ll be difficult for Xabi Alonso to return in time.”

Juve star Gianluca Zambrotta gave an insight into the locker room atmosphere at half-time. “Capello was extremely angry during the break, but he didn’t tell us anything we didn’t already know about our own performance. It was clear for all to see that we had to wake up.”

“I think we stepped onto the field without the right determination and were always second to the ball,” said the fullback. “We realised we couldn’t carry on like that and came on for the second half with a different psychological approach.”

“We proved in the second half that if we put Liverpool under pressure then they will struggle. Considering how it was going, we can be happy with the 2-1 result and clearly there are regrets as we should’ve done so much better.”

This was the first meeting of the two clubs since the Heysel disaster and several former players – including Michel Platini and Ian Rush – walked out before kick-off in a show of friendship.

“I wanted to commemorate the 20th anniversary of this tragic event with the two sets of fans,” explained ex-Juve star Platini.

“Liverpool were exceptional in the first half, but I think Juventus will qualify as they are the better team and started to prove that after the break. With the disallowed goal and Zlatan Ibrahimovic hitting the woodwork they had some great chances.”

i dont know where to start than to say that we are lucky to get this result with this performance , very poor first half , it was like the players not prepared for this match , all the players uncluding buffon who is responsible for the second goal were at sleep. why is this i dont know?
the best man for juve was camo and the worst all (especially zebina, zambrotta, who even he created the goal but was very very way from his form).
dp was ok before he was substituted but he should have scored when he was alone , and he should shoot the ball to the goal when he was 6meter away and choose to stay and wait maybe he will get a penalty???

zlatan was unlucky to score ,his shot hit the bar , our midfield was sleeeeeeep (emerson and blasi were horrible) pessoto was ok when he came in for blasi , why we could not score , we could not move with the ball , all our passes were wrong???

dp goal was legal not offside but i think he should done better with the two occasions to score

like i said we are lucky to get a 2-1 result:(

I already explained that i was wrong in an earlier post, The goal was onside. You should really read all the posts before writing.

But Zlatan still did a better match, Del piero apart from his "goal" did nthing but lose the ball.

First half of the game is surely our worst half this season, it look like our players were underestimating Pool so we paid heavily for this, after they wake up late in first half and in the begining of the second we saw how easy to control Liverpool but we have to play like we r playing a final with no more carelessness...

My Rating

Buffon 5: His postioning were terrible in the second goal, and even in the first one he didn't even react...

Zebina 6: the usuall Zebina making fouls, bad crosses... but at least he was trying to do his best even if his very best is not good enough....

Canna 6.5: our deffence was miserable today, Canna was not at his best day, but I will give him 6.5 only bcuz he score the valuable away goal....

Thuram 6.5: played very bad in the first 20Min like the whole team, but after he wake up he show his real self and made some real good tackling...

Zambro 6: sucked deffinsively most of the action came of his side, he could not stop Luic Garcia but he made some good effort pushing forward...

Camo 7: our best player in the middle today, good control of the ball and he helps even in the middle...

Emerson 5.5: one of his worst match, he rarely fail to domintae the center like this which make us exposed to Liverpool attack...

Blasi 4.5: No comment is needed, every pass every tackle he made sucked, Capello was right to sub him even if do it in first half

Nedved 6: We cann't blame him as he wasn't bad, but it looks like the shock he had effect his long range shoot...

DelPiero 6: good first half and terrible second, no one can argue Capello's decision to sub him...

Zlatan 6.5: he hit the bar and make some good moves, but usually he do better than yesterday...

Pessotto 6.5: good sub by Capello, this guy prove that he had not finished yet...

Trezeguet 4.5: the rating depend of what kind of game ya think Trezeguet were playing yesterday, he touched the ball 3times during the game 2 of them with his hands... so if it was a handball game I would slightly improve his rating....

Giving Del Piero a higher rate than Ibra yesterday can't be anything other than a joke or just an opinion from an extremely biased DP-supporter.
None of them were good. But the problem lies in the MIDFIELD! Our midfield sucks badly.

Yes, I'm blaming our midfield because they are not able to provide the strikers with enough chances. Juventus is the top European team that creates the less of chances and the reason to why we are succesful is that we leave the oponents with very few chances aswell.

With Nedved back it looks a little brighter, but none of Emerson or Blasi are good enough. Sure, Emerson is a great player when it comes to defensive qualities but one of his kind is enough on a midfield.
We do not need Blasi. When we played 4-3-3 for a while we lost nothing in the defense. I couldn't tell a difference.
It was the same way of playing but now we had 3 strikers instead of two.
Blasi is not needed. If we're gonna play 4-4-2 we need a playmaker on the central midfield. I'm not gonna do like others and pretend I play Championship Manager and speculate in buying world stars.
A creative force on the midfield is needed badly.

Look at Crespo as an example. Totally lack pace and technical skill, ability to pass his defender one on one, etc.
Why is he a great striker? Okay, he has a great shot and is awsome with his headers, but the main factor to why he scores goals for Milan is their midfield which is very creative with Pirlo and Kaka, etc.
They provide him with loads of balls that can lead to a scoring opportunitie during a game.

Our strikers has to create the chances themselves. Which is not easy in todays modern football where defenders are fast and well trained.

I'd say us having troubles creating chances depends 70% on the midfield's disability to provide good balls and 30% on the striker's disability to fücking put the ball in the back of the net.
