Whats your opinion in regards to the return leg?
I think we'll lose 2-1 or 3-1, maybe the latter on a counter towards the end.

A 2-1 win is our best bet but we have to score first, I don't see them falling to that kind of collapse again.

I also really want to see the 3-5-2. I know their wide attackers will like it but tbh our back four did little to stop them, and at least with the extra man you gain something in the middle. We looked weak on every ball in last night. The main attacking aspect is that it allows Bonucci freedom to get the ball forward. If Marchisio doesn't make it I'd get Bonucci to be playmaker with Hernanes his man to give and go with in midfield. If Asamoah is fit even better, because that gives you something both physical and technical. You need to get Pogba forward and more central.

I l agree that Atkinson was/is incompetent .Gerard descibed him as the most incompetent referee, but disagree with double standards. When is in our favor (Like Bonucci versus Roma and couple other times) than is not offside. When is against us then is offside.
Vs Roma it was Vidal offside. He is a BM player, so not offside.

:agree: A bit like the Barca game in that sense but if this team fights we can get the right result, we just have to come out and shock them in the first 15 minutes. We need another Dortmund performance basically, or if we are lucky, a late winner. Definitely think we should play the 3-5-2, if we can, Sandro would be a huge boost.

Whatever happens in regards to the result we need to play a good game there, if we do go out having played well it will be massive for this team moving forward.

btw, I haven't read the whole thread, but I was very impressed with Hernanes last night.
Marchisio wasn't well from the start and it showed, but Hernie showed some great committment and played well every single ball he touched.
Above all he showed composure and it showed his international experience.
I hope we can get something out of him before the end of the season, the lad has some skills.

3 5 2, even if Chiello is not fit, play Rugani!! or if we want to play both Licht and Cuadrado, then put Licht as RCB like we have before.
Hopefully Sandro, Khedira and Mandzu get total fitness. We can do this! Fino Alla fucking Fine!!!

Its harsh to say Evra was the worst of the lot. To me he did get caught out a few times but I felt a lot of times he had robben under control, other than the goal which to be fair required more help from our midfielders. For me Licht was the worse. You could of course put Khedira and Marchisio alongside that list with evra the next in line.

The other thing worth mentioning is that our bad start, our injury list, and Napoli's season have affected us in the CL. It would have been nice to rest key players more frequently, but we simply haven't had that luxury.

Douglas Costa, the other winger, then cut the ball back to where Müller could simply guide it seamlessly along the ground and into the net. Müller made the shot look like a pass beyond the goalkeeper’s reach, although on this occasion it was mystifying that the English referee, Martin Atkinson, did not rule the goal offside.

FIFA has obscured the offside rule with its wording that a player can be in an offside position, provided he is not interfering with play. When Müller shot from 15 yards out, Lewandowski was standing right in front of the goalkeeper, surely “interfering” with Buffon’s view of the ball until it was too late.

That rule virtually never gets called btw, and rightfully so imo.

Just take United's goals in the FA cup a few days ago, Mata freekick. Even more bland and even intentional blocking of GK's view, and no call.

That's a different matter. Am just saying that according to the Laws and to most of the neutral press, it should have been disallowed. Not complaining. It was a bit unfortunate that all the 50/50 calls were in their favour.

Why so?

I think if anything these types of call should be made often. Its as bad as blindfolding a goalkeeper and could be used intentially (which in this case you might say it was) or as bad as coming in a goalkeepers way from a corner, blocking his path?

I'm afraid we will start the return match in conservative way like in Turin. If we do that we will surely concede and everything falls apart.

We need combative players that will leave their lungs out there and we must attack. By surprising Bayern and their defence, you go through. Play in expected way, you wil get hammered 3:0.

That would make football redicolouse! Than the could always be a player obstructing the goalkeepers view and nothing could be done about it....
It written clearly in fifas offside rules that obstructing a gk view is interfering with play and IS offside, with very good reason.

Of course but as far as a 'transition' year, you really can't complain. The future is bright if we can keep these youngsters together and make the right moves in thr mercato.

I am still worried that Marchisio probably would be out for merda although for me too Hernanes played well last night.

That's during the shot when Buffon has dived, not at the moment of shooting. Lewandowski is out of picture to the left (you can see a bit of his leg).

This is when he shoots. You can't tell me that doesn't affect Buffon's view. But as has already been said, it's almost arbitrary because these are never given.
