I bet that if you take a team from Serie B and take a team from Championship, the Serie B team will rape the Championship team. Teams in Italy play football, teams in EPL just kick the ball without thinking. Except for Chelsea they have no real team this year. City is a lost case.

I really doubt it, the Championship is miles and miles better off financially than Serie B, it's an extremely tough league. Serie A has a slight technical advantage by the way of the average player, but I'd say the Championship now is close to the same standard as the Premier League when it started in 1992.

I've watched quite a few Championship games this season, the pace and physicality of the league is ferocious (just like the PL) but the technical level is atrocious TBH. Not saying Serie B is better (it really isn't, such a fucking shocking league) but I still think it's a pretty horrid level of football.

it's simple if we play extremely cautious football looking for the draw, we will lose. We should approach this game the same way we played against Shaktar a couple of years ago. Looking for a win (even if the draw was beneficial) and not taking too many stupid risks at the back.

Atletico's game plan will be pretty straight forward. They will be very cautious going forward. For them, a draw is an excellent result and they still top the group with a 1 goal loss. Expect them to be very defensive. I think we will come out and be the more aggressive team in the 1st half.

(Having said that, one could take the view that Atletico could be more adventurous as they already have qualification sealed)

If the score is 0-0 after the 1st half, expect us to become more defensive as the game draws to a close. This game will be a nail biter right to the final whistle (unless in the highly unlikely event that Malmo is beating Olympiacos in Greece).

If we score a goal and take the lead, expect us to still be cautious.

I still fear this game a lot for a couple of reasons. Firstly, we still don't look convincing in Europe (we lack that psychological cutting edge) and Atletico are the type of team that could win even if we completely outplay them - they are like the Italian teams of the early 90s in that regard. Secondly, our domestic momentum is tapering off somewhat (had to win at the last second against Torino and a stalemate in Florence).

My greatest fear is that we start playing for a 0-0 and with little time left Atletico score from a set piece and the scorer of all people is Tiago. That would be a nightmare.

We better not play right into the hands of Simeone again, turning the game into a physical and personal battle, interrupting the flow of the game, just for them to take advantage of the chaos. They've mastered that trick against Barca and Real.
