The first game against Malmo will be the easiest and the second against Madrid will be the most difficult. Interesting... Allegri managed to get decent results with a pretty shitty squad in the CL with Milan. Let's hope he will deliver again.

Ajax groups the last few years...

Real Madrid 6 5 1 0 15 2 +13 16
Milan 6 2 2 2 7 7 0 8
Ajax 6 2 1 3 6 10 −4 7
Auxerre 6 1 0 5 3 12 −9 3

Real Madrid 6 6 0 0 19 2 +17 18
Lyon 6 2 2 2 9 7 +2 8
Ajax 6 2 2 2 6 6 0 8
Dinamo Zagreb 6 0 0 6 3 22 −19 0

Borussia Dortmund 6 4 2 0 11 5 +6 14
Real Madrid 6 3 2 1 15 9 +6 11
Ajax 6 1 1 4 8 16 −8 4
Manchester City 6 0 3 3 7 11 −4 3

Barcelona 6 4 1 1 16 5 +11 13
Milan 6 2 3 1 8 5 +3 9
Ajax 6 2 2 2 5 8 −3 8
Celtic 6 1 0 5 3 14 −11 3

and now Barcelona, PSG and APOEL . they always get a hard group (unlike Benfica, Porto who always get an easy group). the only time they had a relative easy group was with Lyon when they almost went through. must be really hard to be an Ajax fan in the recent years

Win Serie A this year and then pot 1 here we come:tuttosport:(Rumored but UEFA confirmed thinking about changing the seeding system)
Would be a good change.

I'd like to see country protection rules being changed as well.

Certainly wouldn't prevent teams from the same country playing each other in the last 16 and might not prevent them playing each other in the groups.

That would bring the novelty down....One of the big attractions of CL is new matches and clash of styles....Barcelona vs Juventus is a new match and people would be interested in watching that...while Barca vs Atletico will be a less interesting match...I am in favor of country protection rules till the quarters

I'd argue that it brings the chances of something novel down.

If a few of the English/Spanish/German/Italian clubs had to play each other earlier in the competition, it would open up more chances for different teams to make it to the latter stages.

Just now the CL is fixed so that the rich clubs keep getting richer and it's almost impossible for an outsider to break through and get into the big money of the latter rounds, which could allow them to start building a stronger side and properly establish themself as a top side.

It would end up fucking up the coefficients, that would need to be changed too.

Teams from Russia,Portugal,Holland would have to do much more than perform in CL to attract the big names, imo. They have some historic names like Ajax,Benfica,Porto but will always be viewed as a transition league. They don't have the same ring like Milan,Madrid,Juventus,Barcelona,United, etc. have.

The only difference removing "country protection rules" would make that teams like Benfica,Porto, etc. will make it to the quarters and the semis, but they would inevitably be found out by the bigger fish.

The last two CL semis were excellent with good entertainment with strong teams making up the semis. And Porto(2004),Dortmund,Atletico prove that money isn't really a big obstacle in achieving success.UEFA instead needs to make EL more financially rewarding to promote the smaller teams.

It was always like that (since the new format was introduced), but in 2005/06 Liverpool had to start their campaign from the 1st qualifying round. They had finished 5th in the EPL in the previous season, but they also had managed to win the CL that same year, therefore UEFA allowed them to participate, but as I've said they had to start their campaign early and later on they could have faced other English club iirc.
