You're exaggerating and I won't be dragged into it. Maldini was great.
You weren't even born in his best years ffs :D All you saw of him from back then are compilations where he's made to look great.
Youtube is playing with your brains in this case. Trust me, he was average but lucky to enjoy Berlusca's media influence and propaganda. Nesta right now, playing in Canada, is better than Maldini ever was. Yet the spotlight was always on Maldini, rarely on his brilliant partners in Milan's defense.

You know how you always hear players say in interviews stuff like "Ronaldo was the best forward I ever faced" or "Marchisio is the smartest midfielder I've ever played against" or "Cannavaro gave me the hardest time when I played him"? Not sure I ever heard anyone say that about Maldini.

I found the "Goal di Muntari" 's father

Again Milan, back in 1988. In Champions League quarterfinals. The return match of the one posted in the above video.
Check 1:22 and especially 1:46

Agree with most of what Alen said, I've watched Maldini (in the early 90's period) and he was not all that great. Solid but that's about it IMO, Baresi on the other hand was indeed Great.

And Berlusconi's media indeed made the most of it (as always), just look at the way they've overhyped Kaka to the point one would think he's half God half Human !!

Poor Real Madrid actually bought that

From what I saw of Maldini, he was an excellent LB, but merely a good CB.

I'd certainly put Nesta and Cannavaro above him as CBs.

 ... come on now, guys, you can't possibly be this delusional

as for Alen's incessant fellating of Balkan players on those Zvezda clips, keep in mind those games were in '88, when maldini was still 19 yo, ffs.

He was 20 and a regular starter in Milan for a couple of years or so. Daddy's influence was still big, I suppose. Maldini had to play even though he was average :agree:

Nzoric is such a hype ho. First saying Cantona was a great and now Maldini. If he were to be born now, he'd grow up and go around saying Zanetti is the best player ever.

First of all, please read my posts I'm getting tired of correcting you all the time.

1. I said Cantona was a great football player, and I stand by that.

2. I said Maldini was one of the all time greats, so that's obviously a step over "great".

Cantona was a great player no doubt.

Maldini was a world class fullback. Later when he moved to being a CB, he was a very good there as well. Although i agree with Red, as a CB he is probably not as good as the likes of Nesta.

oh, my bad, he was a 20 yo defender at the time and that completely proves my point wrong ... a regular starter in that Milan, at 20, some might say it's a testament to the player he was to become but I am guessing that's not you 'cause defenders at 20 are fully developed players, at least in the Balkans :)
