not this Milan with a midfield core of 34-35 yo players and some good but not great players in other positions ... carlo's Milan of 2004-2007, hell yes.

This was the only way for this Milan to get any result vs this Barca team, which was also coming into the game in a better shape - closing them down and stifling the midfield, being physical - trying to beat Barca at their game would be detrimental for any team out there, I think, not just this Milan.
I know.

I get fed up of people pedalling the idea that there is only one way to play football successfully or that there is a right and a wrong way to play.

A team that can defend properly is a match for anyone, as a very mediocre Italy team showed when they played Spain in 2008.

Really?

I'd love to watch Allegri floping hard at Porto then.
me too - any links :)

And Mourinho built his own Inter, just for the record. I guess Allegri would never design a new Eto'o, create a top5 player in Milito, get Lucio back from the deads and make JC the best keeper in the world, for example, but that's probably just me... by the way, go check all those guys (except Eto'o) now and compare them to the Mourinho's time.
you make it sound like Mou had it very hard under Moratti writing all sorts of checks and whatnot - they may not have spend 30-40 mil on a player but Allegri has been fed a virtually dead team and made them champs. And then he gets Aquillani and nocerino ... come on man, you know better - just look at Mou - always top talent to work with anywhere he went. btw, Lucio and JC were already top players, mind you.

How do explain Avram Grant and that he did better than Mou in one year at Chelski than the Portuguese did in 3 - and yes, Ag would have won the title if not for Mou's poor start to that season.
How about not being able to beet Rafa once in the CL with all the blank check Roman was signing?

Again, too many circumstances for a proper comparison :)

Mourinho would do wonders with Milan's squad. You have a bunch of good players and already some great ones. Abate is the one who gets the most of my curiosity. I guess he'd turn into WC under Mou, just a guess. Then you have the likes of Aquilani, Boateng, Nocerino, Cassano, Pato and Robinho who could only get better by working with him. And I'm sure he wouldn't be wasting quality players like Pirlo for the likes of Flamini, Ambrosini or MvB too...
you know what they call the claim of Mou making Abate a WC player - speculation, personified :)

I am pretty sure you caused a smile or a laugh to many here by mentioning the likes of Aquilani, Nocerino, etc there :p

Pirlo would have been sold under Mou too - he likes his teams hard and physical - the reason why he beat Barca and Chelski that year ... a slow Pirlo at the heart of a Mou midfield, I don't think so.
But it wasn't Allegri who sold Pirlo, it was Pirlo's age and salary demands and injuries - it's not like Allegri ever benched an inform, healthy Pirlo - he was out due to being constantly injured.

I've never really understood that insult.
