I see. Well there's something new I found out.
United are definitely behind Madrid in fan base and probably behind Barca too. Most of South America supports the Spaniards and there you have babies, kids, women, men and old people following football. In Asia it's what...1 in 50 that follows football?
Real have the biggest fan base worldwide.

Yeah, I can understand it too, afterall it's widely known that fans of one club are all exactly the same and thus can be stereotyped.

Especially a club with more fans than any other in the world.
Of course not, I know many nice people who happen to be ManU fans but you know what I mean. No one knows every ManU fan, they interact with those they know and only those with whom they interact can influence them.

That said, I still feel a change in your attitude rather than in people around here.

I'm not really sure about the numbers but people in the Far East are crazy about ManU. And Del Piero :p

Go to google, type in "most supported football club in the world", read as many articles as you want, come back with tail between legs.

United at the biggest team in 3 specific countries in the Asia; China, South Korea and Indonsia (that roughly makes up around 26-27% of the world's population) obviously not everyone supports them (or likes football) in those countries - but they are significantly ahead of all other clubs in those areas.

It's estimated that Man United have 333 million fans worldwide.

EDIT: United are also the most popular in the US as well.

They also have a large fan-base here in Iran even though Barca have overtaken them in the last few years. I think ManU fans are on par with Real's here.

Andy won't like that :D
Yeah, he's probably cutting himself over it.

Not that the numbers in the US are that impressive seeing as how Americans aren't that into football yet, but its an emerging market for football and so far United are ahead (and have another planned pre-season tour there coming in 2011).

You can't count the fan base even in one city of 50 000 people, even less in the whole world.
333 million football fans? What a number  It looks like they did everything to make it look like they counted those fans one by one. They don't say around 300 mil, but they say 333 millions.

I'm a Juve fan. If you ask my wife who does she support she will tell you Juve too, even though she knows nothing about Juve, she never watches matches, doesn't know a single player.
Now, my wife is like 3/4 of those "333 million United fans". I was talking about fans like you and me, not "fans" like my wife.

Yeah I was only really talking about Asia specifically, Africa also has a large football fanbase, countries like Nigeria I know are generally more United - but Arsenal also have a large following their, I don't really know the numbers for those places and its hard to find accurate information.

And yet thats how estimates are made and have been made since the dawn of time.

Thats why it's called an ESTIMATE.

333 millions are 1/20 of the entire world's population. How did they estimate that 1/20 of the entire world population supports United? 1/8 of the population in the world are kids 0-10 years old. That's close to one billion. Those kids aren't fans (yet). When you take them out it means that 1/16 of the world's population supports Manchester United. Can't you see how silly that is? Even in the City of Manchester I doubt that more than 1/3 supports United and you're actually telling me that 1/16 of the world's population (which includes 11 year old girls in Congo, 92 year old women in Tibet, 28 year old gay hair stylist in Greece and a 40 year old blind woman in Sri Lanka) supports United?
