As it was in the season when Chelsea eliminated us :agree:

They started really bad, Mourinho got fired, they were missing players etc, and they started hitting form in February, right before they faced us. They came really close to eliminating Barca that year. Last fucking second.
Hehe, not to be too pedantic, I think it was Scolari who got sacked before Hiddink came in.

I reckon if they had stuck with Scolari and didnt sack him, we would have a very very good chance of beating them that time. He never used to start Drogba FFS.

Now its clear. Liverpool's great run under benitez when they finished second destroyed Benitez when the next season they had a miserable start to the season.. something that demonstrated that the previous season was not repeatable. It was not the pool players who got broken... it was more Benitez who got broken and the team got affected by it.

Benitez is still broken. His approach became one aiming at not-losing rather than winning. His mental strength is destroyed, not the players'. Injuries did not help with the cause but benitez has become a pussy. His selection and post-match reaction today confirm this.

The benitez that took valencia to spanish glory and pool to european and almost to EPL glory has seized to exist. He needs to get sacked and will get sacked very soon. He should take a long time off, for a couple of seasons at least and then return to football when he finds his formal self.
Almost winning the EPL after so many years of trying with a relatively weaker squad killed him.

Inter coach Rafael Benitez believes his future at the club isn’t dependent on success in the FIFA World Club Championship.

The heat is certainly on Benitez as his side produced yet another lacklustre display in Germany and were subsequently put to the sword by a rampant Werder Bremen side.

The Spanish tactician has been under scrutiny following the club’s indifferent start to the season but despite the defeat Benitez believes the 3-0 setback was not a huge concern as they had already qualified for the knockout stage.

He also defended his decision to leave out key personnel in order to save them for the upcoming FIFA World Club Championship.

“This was a game where the team already qualified,” the Spaniard told Sky Italia after the game.

“For me it's different. The important part was the game with Twente. We tried the young players and we have not injured anyone.

He continued to explain his philosophy by trying to implement his ideas into the team before confirming his belief that the World Club Championship wont determine his future.

"That's the goal, I'm changing everything, changing the mentality." I do not know who will be decisive, but I want the team do well in their entirety.

"Now I am worried though only about the present. If I change my socks for luck? It is not a matter of socks, but injured players and other problems. My future depends on the World Championship? No, I think not,” he concluded.

The bold part is true :D

“I don't know which players will start yet but those who play will want to win.

“How important is this game for us? I would say 10 out of 10 and that's the same for every player who will enter the pitch.”
and then

“The important game was against Twente and we won it,” assured the Coach. “This was not a game we had to win, so that’s why we fielded so many youngsters.”

Benitez has truly made a joke of himself by joining Inter; I actually feel kind of sorry for the guy. Truth be told, it's not only his fault, in fact, I think it's mostly Moratti's fault for conducting such a poor transfer campaign. In any case, Inter's problem is with the players more than it is with the coach.

Benitez, unfortunately for him, was at the wrong place at the wrong time.

'We feel we can beat anybody in this competition,' said Crouch, who came on as a late sub in Enschede.
'We have proved that. We beat Inter Milan, the European champions at White Hart Lane quite convincingly and we deserved to.
'There is no one that we should be wary of at all. Having watched Barcelona the other night — in their 5-0 thrashing of Jose Mourinho’s Real (Madrid) maybe we should be a little cautious but we shouldn’t be too frightened. We have performed very well against top opposition.
'We should go into every game as we do - trying to win.'

Peter -robot- Crouch

Can't wait until they get stuffed.

I do enjoy listening to the English talking themselves up.

Makes the crash all the more satisfying.

I would like to see spurs go far in this one truth be told. They showed quality football so far.

Anyone saw the second goal by Tel Aviv yesterday? was a good one for sure.
