I think folk are being very harsh on the team and Ferrara after this performance.

We were taken aback somewhat with the tempo and width Bayern played with early on, but we recovered pretty well after the first 20 minutes or so.

The defence did very well and they had to because the midfield didn't keep the ball as well as they needed to to make the formation and the personnel we played effective.

However, the midfield did a much better job of protecting the defence in wide areas, which suggests they are starting to grow accustomed to playing the 4-3-1-2.

I thought the Poulsen for Diego sub was sensible in the circumstances and the change to the 4-4-2 closed the game out very nicely.

My only real complaint about Ferrara is that he didn't throw Del Piero on for the last few minutes. Chances were hard to come by, so I would have given Del Piero the last ten minutes or so to see if he couldn't do something to win the game.

Buffon - Okay. Not that much to do. Closed angles well, but unconvincing on some crosses.

Grygera - Solid. Got done by Ribery once or twice, but that is only to be expected. Kept Ribery very quiet in the second half and didn't give the ball away much
Legrottaglie - Excellent. Held his position well and made some vital interceptions
Chiellini - Similar to Legro.
Grosso - Struggled against Robben, but did better in the second half. A couple of good crosses, but also some poor decision making in attack.

Camoranesi - Very good game. Held possession well and drove the team forward when possible. Also got through a power of work in defence
Melo - Struggled to get involved early, but came into the game later on. Kept the ball reasonably, but his passing wasn't particularly incisive
Marchisio - Good work in defence, but gave the ball away too often

Diego - Worked hard, but clearly isn't even close to being match fit. Incredible chase back and block in the first half

Iaquinta - Invisible for long periods and made some poor decisions. Needed to work the channels more. Unlucky on the chance late on
Trezeguet - Worked hard and linked the play as well as he ever does. Unlucky on the volley

Poulsen - Was decent. Pressed the ball well and played short, simple passes when in possession. The cool head that our midfield needed
Amauri -
Tiago -

i think that our Defense made a great match today. the only thin' that pissed me off that we could have won it easily in the second half, with better subs but we didn't!! it was a great chance for us but we wasted it.. anyway it's still good for us and we will make the difference next matches..

My highlight of the match was the tackle from Legro on Schweinsteiger. It was a great call by the referee not to whistle a penalty because it was a 100% legal interception on the ball.
It made me laugh cause legro's foot went out so lazily, it looked like he was committing the foul but to my amazement he fully got on the ball. Great call by the ref cause when a player like schwien ran in between two players at close proximity and a leg gets stuck out 50% of refs would have given a pk

Diego wasn't fit to play the 90 minutes, first thing for those talking about Poulsen coming on for him. Poulsen or Tiago are coming on for him, take your pick.

I thought Diego had a good game to be honest, his defensive work was superb and than track back and block was worthy it's weight in gold, bravo for that. He also had some nice play in the final third but we'll see more when he was fit.

Obviously in the first half they terrorised us at times with two bullets on the wings, Ribery had a magic little run and but for an over-ambitious finish would surely have scored. Robben looked lively and then typically went off injured. Grosso is not the greatest against this sort of player but on the other side I thought Grygera did ok. We did well to hang on really, even if Buffon didn't really have a save. We could also have taken the lead, it was a false offside on Camo when Trezeguet was point blank in the centre, but overall lucky to be in at 0-0 for halftime.

Second half suited us much better, they lost fluidity of play and couldn't stretch us out so much without Robben, Olic is also very mobile but has nothing like the technique and brain to exploit it. Melo started to dominate midfield and also Marchisio came into it more. Camo was great throughout, quality and workrate.

And Van Gaal at the end, glad to see the arrogant wanker upset, means we did well.

Our defence did not play as well as they could have, since when has solidity become part of Juves vocabulary, Ranieri's gone.
Thats way I said prespective.

We are not the same team we were. we need time to get there and we will.

We played in an away game against two of the best wingers out there, and we have bad fullbacks. They didnt got raped or emberessed or nothing, they did fine by me.

I wasn't trying to be harsh but SOLID is an unacceptable level of performance for me, it just is soz.
Solid is sometimes what you need, if we had been more solid against Genoa or Bologna we would be leading Serie A. Bayern have some brilliant attacking players and would cause any team problems playing as they did in the first half.

I seriously can't believe some people are not giving our defence any credit, don't think they will have a tougher match all season and we came out with a 0-0.

thank you Red, the voice of reason, especially about Grygera...apparently some people think getting screwed by Ribery is a very rare occurrence

Because of Ribery's arrogance more than anything else. That's a must-score-goal.

Good post Red, agreed. Even if its annoying to settle for a draw we did in 2nd half, when Bayern were totally tired as heck and couldnt do squat.

What pissed me off was how bad our corners were, and to make it worse, not only where they bad, but in first half in particular, our own corners gave Bayern the chance to counter real quick almost every single time. Really bad corners.

Even if it was a great call it was pretty risky as 2 players locked down on shvainshtaiger and if it wasn't for the good judement by the keeper another might have called for a penalty. And surely the result would be to bash Legro as always.

Look.

If you put me out there as a right-back, and completely get owned by Ribery, yet he failed to score after beating me several times, should I be defended just because Ribery was my opponent?

Give me a break. I don't care who it was, our right-back was terrible tonight.

even when we were defending corners we looked really bad...never seen Chiellini look so freaked out

You're not making sense Dus... why put him on the bench if you think it's risky playing him?

Once you put a player on the bench there's no ifs, he's either an option to use or keep him out of the squad. Very simple. If Del Piero isn't 100% then dont take him and put Seba on the bench.

All in all not playing him at least 15min doesn't make sense to me at all.
I definitely agree with this post. I understand that Del Piero is not fit and Ferrara didn't use him for that, then why not bench Giovinco or any other player who is fit? Unless the whole squad is injured :S

That was really irksome.

What really annoyed me was that they didn't learn from it the first time it happened.

Marchisio ended up having to take a booking to stop another such break from happening.

he was not completely owned as you put it, just a few moments in the 1st half...other than that, Ribery was not going anywhere
