If Robben remained healthy through the entire match, we would have lost this one. Our fullbacks are absolutely shameful footballers, especially Grygera. Zebina needs to play.

The good:

The one point earned from this match: something we didn't deserve after the first half.
The second half: Much better than the first, but mostly because Bayern lost a step in attack.
Camoranesi: Most active and creative force on the pitch.
Buffon: Fantastic, game-saving saves as usual.
Melo: Started slow but was much better as the game went on.

The bad:

Chiellini: Absolutely destroyed in the first half.
Iaquinta: Not his usual self.
Marchisio: One match he's great, the next he's nonexistent.
Ferrara: Made the team play for a point, which is always a dangerous thing to do.

The ugly:

Grosso: Again, the guy is a horrible defender. No two ways about it.
Grygera: Usual self. Horrible.
Poulsen: Adds nothing to the team.

We stole one point from Bayern tonight but it was obvious that was Ferrara's plan and it was so close to backfire. Had we not been that lucky in the first half the result would have been much much different. Fielding Diego and Camoranesi with two deep runners that play with their back behind the ball was obvious that it won't lead to any chances. Opting for Grygera over Zebina was a recipe to make Bayern have the calmest of nights on the left side. Grosso didn't help the other side either. Melo's presence in the middle was somehow redundant because it's the flanks we should have closed, not the center Ottl and Schweinsteiger weren't going to trouble us as they were both busy with Diego. In other words, Ferrara read the game wrong (again) and luck together with Robben's injury helped us survive a humiliation.

Buffon 6.5

Grygera 5
Legrottaglie 6.5
Chiellini 6
Grosso 4

Melo 6
Camoranesi 6
Marchisio 4.5
Diego 5

Trezeguet 5.5
Iaquinta 4.5

Poulsen 5
Amauri 5.5
Tiago N.R

Ferrara 4

Thats very harsh. Especially to marchisio. The guy played a very good defensive game. Obviously as requested from Ferrara.

result is fine, but today we were terrible, not a fan of that diamond midfield the more i see it, Melo sits too deep, camo drifts to the side and diego plays too advanced and cant run into space as a result. Its almost like a 5-2-3 that were playing at the moment and we're getting overrun in midfield

Those are optimistic predictions IMO.

I think

Maccabi (h)- win
Maccabi (a)- draw
Bordeaux (a)- draw
Bayern (h)- draw

6 points
That's if we keep playing like this, which we won't.
Remember that we started CL similarly last year. Awful performance and lucky win vs Zenit, followed by a draw in Borisov.

This draw will prove to be a big result in the end. Just wait and see.

I applaud Ciro for recognizing we were not going to win and salvaging a point. A tie at Bayern is not the worst thing in the world. I'm happy with the result actually, not necessarily the performance, but in a competition like this there will be games like this and it's important to take what you can realistically get and with our injuries and lack of chemistry at the moment a tie is fine with me.

If Robben remained healthy through the entire match, we would have lost this one.
:agree:

Yeah, he wanted a draw.

Del Piero not coming on was something else though. He's not young anymore and it takes more time for him to recover fully and more time to get into form and Alex knows it too probably. It would be a huge risk to let him play even 15 minutes, imagine he gets injured for 2 months..it's hard, we still count on him a lot I guess.
You're not making sense Dus... why put him on the bench if you think it's risky playing him?

Once you put a player on the bench there's no ifs, he's either an option to use or keep him out of the squad. Very simple. If Del Piero isn't 100% then dont take him and put Seba on the bench.

All in all not playing him at least 15min doesn't make sense to me at all.

i agree that we were lucky to come away with a draw but you have to realize that we played a very good team and were PWNED in the first 45minutes of the match. like i said before, we were lucky not to concede at least 2 goals but we didn't. we came into the match looking for the draw and thats what we did. if you thought the match was going to be a shootout then you are sorely mistaken. we didn't play terribly bad after the 1st half. the bottom line is that we got a point out of it.
oh bayern are a great team and i'm happy with the point just not with the way we got it.
we got totally owned in the first 45min...and therefor i think that some of our players did awful.
we played a better 2nd half. because bayern seemed tried too and with the 4-4-2 we looked much better in the defence.
but we looked really clueless what to do without diego..

We did what we came to do avoid defeat - now we take 6 points of maccabi, 1 or 3 of bordeaux and the 3 points of bayern in turin and finish 1st:juventus:

If poulsen had not come on then Bayern would have continued to dominate possession and almost certainly have scored - the poulsen sub for diego seemed negative by ferrara but anything more ambitious like a 3rd striker may have won us the game but just as easliy may have lose us the game.

You guys really cant be unhappy with a draw here, its exactly what we needed. Next 2 games we will play Maccabi where we have to get 6 points (if we wont then its time to point some fingers) By that time we will have 8 pts and at least 1 team will be chasing us when 2 games are remaining.

If either team (Bayern or Bordeaux) win both their matches then: (Best case scenario)
Munchen/Bordeaux 10pts
Juve 8pts
Munchen/Bordeaux 4pts
Maccabi 0pts

If each win 1 time then: (Worst case scenario)
Juve 8pts
Munchen/Bordeaux 7pts
Munchen/Bordeaux 7pts
Maccabi 0pts

If they draw both games then:
Juve 8pts
Munchen/Bordeaux 6pts
Munchen/Bordeaux 6pts
Maccabi 0pts

Forgot to put: if one team wins one game and the other one ends as a draw:
Juve 8pts
Munchen/Bordeaux 8pts
Munchen/Bordeaux 5pts
Maccabi 0pts

So a double victory against Maccabi is a must!

Good result in general. At least we were lucky enough not to take a goal in the first half before everyone got tired.
We had a 1 or 2 chances that could have got us the game though especially in second half.

When Poulsen came in did we play 4-4-2? we looked much comfortable in that formation I say.

hahaha..a draw in haifa!!!if bayern won there 3-0 we should be able to do the same

i think we can beat bordeaux..i mean it took them a corner to defeat haifa

were still undefeated though but what we really need is diego, del piero, amauri to start finding the rythym neccessary of them to lift us forward in the last 3rd of the pitch bcuz were lacking in offensive firepower desperately

Perfect analysis of the game, I would only add Leggrotaglie to the good, he was excellent.

We will do, cause we employed it for 2 years. This 4-3-1-2 formation is going to take getting used to. Im sure our midfield wont be as overrun when the Soaker is back.

Did you count the number of times he gave away possession? I lost count after 58.

taking Diego out is really stupid imo.. Okay if you wanna defend a 0-0 do it in a better way.. He could even play a 4-4-1-1 with Diego staying on just under Trezeguet, and letting Poulsen on for IQ!!..

Just stupid not letting a player like Diego stay in !

With how Bayern is playing in the 1st half, I can understand why Ferrara took out Diego for Poulsen for a 4-4-2. It somehow work, either Bayern took their foot off the throttle or we managed to close space much better with the extra man at the middle.

Ciro could have taken some risk, kept Diego and carry out the offensives but seeing how the impressive Ribery are taking our players for a ride, opening up the plays would have really suited Ribery to stab the dagger in.

Seeing how the effectiveness of Ribery was to a certain degree curbed, the sub did not turn out badly.

yea without diego on we had no attack whatsoever. camo was our facilitator after poulsen came on and he tried his best but playing on the right side got us nowhere

I don't know. I have us down for a draw at home against Haifa becuase we really should get that. A draw away is slightly pessimistic but I put that down to the reputation that Israeli clubs have as hosts. Last I heard, bordeaux were unbeaten at home in 40-something games, so a draw might be a good result there. And I don't know if we'll beat Bayern at home. So we may get 2 points more for the most.
