Ferrara: Mission Accomplished!
Sunday 24 May, 2009
Ciro Ferrara is celebrating his first Juventus match and the fact he has already taken the team to automatic Champions League qualification.

“It was a wonderful day, but above all I am happy with the reaction and performance of the squad,” said the new Coach who replaced Claudio Ranieri this week.

Thanks to the 3-0 victory away to Siena, Fiorentina's 1-1 at Lecce and Milan's 3-2 home defeat to Roma, Juve are guaranteed a top three finish.

One of Ferrara's first moves was bringing Alessandro Del Piero back to the starting XI and he was repaid with a brace.

“I had to tell him off, as he needs to let me be more relaxed on the bench!” laughed Ferrara.

“He had the chances to finish off the game and should've taken them. He scored a good third, but he needs to help us all take it a bit easier.

“I wasn't here in previous games, so I don't know what happened and what was asked of the players. I know that I did request lots of hard work from Del Piero both in attack and coming back to help the defence.”

It was Juventus' first win since March after a seven-match winless streak and marked a big turnaround from recent performances.

“Siena had a very strong start and created a few problems for us, but for the rest of the time I think Juve played with a real spirit of sacrifice from all its men.

“I believe that when there is a change of management, there is always going to be a shake-up in terms of motivation.

“Even if it wasn't me on the bench, the players would've felt responsible and realised exactly what it is we're gambling with here.

“We had to go and get the direct Champions League qualification and perhaps something a little more.”

Ferrara has said he wanted to make it a permanent job on the Bianconeri bench, but faces competition from Bari boss Antonio Conte.

“Conte sent me a message wishing me luck.”

He brought us determination, winning mentality, he taught us how to be calm, efficient and focused!
He has always been an inspirational leader, but i still dont thing that he is already ready for the greatest challenge/responsibility!

We have to be patient and call him back when he is going to be ready...

Let's be honest. Ciro got a pretty soft first match: against perennial Juve pushovers, Siena, in a meaningless match for them. Ranieri just might have won against them.

However, this is a great start. Will be interesting to see the greater challenge of Lazio and how he gets the club to react...

No he wouldnt, we have seen enough to be certain of it!!
There were too many reasons that would forbid that and the will of our players is one of them! They proved that today...

Don't say that. Atalanta's case was similar too. I am not sure if Ranieri had stayed, we would have won this one. But sure, Ferrara didn't make any wonders, but fresh air was needed, he Ferrara said that himself, that Juve needed fresh air, and whoever was the manager, they were going to win it.

He boomed the team, Gigi laughed today in his goal, Ale had more confidence, Camo played good in the first half, Trez got in, didn't really do anything. Kinda like how Hiddink boomed Didier Drogba who was getting assraped by Scolari.

I agree, we would have struggled more with Ranieri as coach, but would've still won IMO. I mean, Siena played REALLY bad today. If i'm not mistaken, they didn't create even one decent scoring opportunity.

Remember Capello's last season when we were on a similar winless streak. Then we went to Siena and scored three goals inside the first 10 minutes. And last season it was the opposite, we had nothing to play for, while Siena needed points, and Siena won 1-0.

boomed?
anyway I am happy for the win and clean sheet. I hope having a great defender as a coach would make our defence better. I am also happy he went with Zanetti and Marchisio in the CM. Maybe he understands that Marchisio, Zanetti and Sissoko are Juve material .. but Tiago .. and probably Poulsen are not.

Look, I want to see Ciro be immensely successful as much as any juventino. Part for the club for obvious reasons. But part also because the man is a Juve legend worthy of so much regard for what he put on the field and how he's been as a representative of this club.

And it's clear that he seems to be commanding the respect of his players. How could the guy not? (unlike Ranieri).

But Siena was hardly a real test yet. I just don't want to wet my pants over the guy just yet, given the challenges to come.

He only has one challenge left and i am confident, that he wont make any blatant mistakes!
He was as prudent as anyone can get. But i was expecting that, what i wasnt expecting, was the attack of modesty at his post match comments.
I was kind of anxious about them...

I attended Lippi's last match for Juve at the Franchi in Siena. Juve was changing the guard, because it was clear that Lippi and Juve both needed to move on at the time. Juve whomped them 3-1. Still, it was hardly that impressive.
