Six names to replace Ferrara
Tuesday 19 January, 2010
Tuttosport understands Juventus have drawn up a list of six candidates capable of replacing Ciro Ferrara, including Giovanni Trapattoni.

Ferrara has been under an incredible amount of pressure after leading Juventus on an incredible run that has seen them knocked out of the Champions League and fall away from the title race.

Guus Hiddink has long been the favourite to replace him, but repeated denials from his agent and competition from Liverpool suggest a deal with the Dutchman isn't in the offing.

Sticking with Dutch Coaches, Juventus are apparently giving a great deal of consideration to Milan legend Marco van Basten, who has been out of work since leaving Ajax last year.

Juventus have also profiled Michael Laudrup, the former Getafe and Brondby manager, who played for the Bianconeri in the 1980s.

Laudrup is available after being sacked by Spartak Moscow in September last year. He was linked with the Atletico Madrid job in October along with Luciano Spalletti, but the club's board eventually went with Quique Sanchez Flores.

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Juande Ramos, perhaps best known for his achievements with Sevilla, is also said to be under discussion.

However, perhaps the two most intriguing names on the list are those of Alberto Zaccheroni and Trapattoni.

Tuttosport understands Trap would be happy to accept a part-time arrangement whereby he would temporarily leave his duties with the Republic of Ireland and return to Juventus for four months.

Trap has trained Juventus with great success on two separate occasions, winning the Scudetto six times and the European Cup once along with seven other major honours.

Aged 70, Tuttosport believes Trap would view the Juventus job as a glorious opportunity to come full circle and close his career.

Hiddink, Zaccheroni, Van Basten, Laudrup and Trappatoni. All question marks. Hiddink won't negotiate when a manager still sits. He said that when Mancini got Hughes position. I think he is sincere, which would mean any words on him is BS before Ciro is out. Trap I dont think wants the be rescue man and Zaccheroni I dont want. Laudrup and Van Basten - well maybe. Lets just be clear both are gambles. I'd prefer Laudrup of the two bc he has a unique skill to make good transfers. I think were better of with Ciro and no idea what to do, than with no Ciro and no idea what to do. I only think we should take a swift decision if the players are indeed against him. If they have no faith he must go. I have no way of knowing what the locker room looks like, and I do have some faith in Bettega.

Lets say we hire a replacement and he, very likely, has a rough first 3 games. What then are we gonna start yelling again? Lets find the cause, and then act. Ciro might be it.. but I am actually not convinced....

I am starting to believe that the best thing to do right now is hitting to breaks and limit stupid decisions. That means paying too much for Candreva, firing Ciro with no clear cut idea for what then to happen.

For me worst case scenario is signing Candreva and (god forbid) paying Gio in return, firing Ciro and the get som coach who want someone completely different. This squad can obtain CL qualification. I am sure of that. And I also think they should be able to beat Chievo without a coach with just Chiellini, Buffon and DP setting a lineuo 5 minutes before kick off. The first thing to do is to get rid of Secco. Show some leadership. See if we can get a prolific and authorative replacement. We should start getting players back bit by bit and things will have chance of improving.

I know that It is the mod's decision to make but IMO Tuttosport should be banned from this forum.

Goal.com is not banned anymore. People can post whatever they want, but they should now what's reliable and what isn't.

It's you're call guys not mine but i don't remember not even once Tuttosport said something that actually happened later. They search for names of people who are available and they just mentioned them as targets.

I mean its too obvious that they're just making out stories....

Average coach but hey, I might be wrong.
Dude, Trap isn't anywhere near average. He's a legend. A lot of people, including me, consider the old man as the best coach of all time!

...and he's still up there with the Top 5, IMO.

This isn't average:

Juventus:
Italian League: 1976-77, 1977-78, 1980-81, 1981-82, 1983-84, 1985-86
Italian Cup: 1978-79, 1982-83
European Cup: 1984-85
UEFA Cup Winners' Cup: 1984
UEFA Cup: 1977, 1993
European Super Cup: 1984
Intercontinental Cup: 1985
Internazionale:
Italian League: 1988-89
UEFA Cup: 1991
Bayern Munich:
German League: 1996-97
German Cup: 1997-98
S.L. Benfica:
Portuguese League: 2004-05
FC Red Bull Salzburg:
Austrian League: 2006-07
