Think about it this way, when was the last time the club ever fired a coach during mid-season ?

I've followed this club for the past 18 years and i know that it never happened. Add the fact that this is Ferrara's first season in charge of the club.
Season 1998/99.
After the 2:4 defeat at home vs Parma on February 7th (round 20), Lippi was replaced with Carlo Ancelotti.

That was the season we ended up in Intertoto. In the opening 20 rounds Lippi had a record of 7-6-7 (22:23). We were 11th placed so something had to be done.

Ancelotti took over and had a 8-3-3 (20:13) record which was enough to put us at 7th place (we shared 5th, 6th and 7th but we lost the play off against Udinese) and a place in Intertoto. Carlo also took us to the semis in CL (with Lippi we really struggled that season in CL. We had a 1-5-0 record in the groups and we hardly qualified, because we had the same number of points with the 2nd placed Galatasaray and 3rd placed Rosenborg, but better goal difference. Back then only the group winners and the best 2 second placed teams qualified and if we were 2nd we weren't gonna qualify), but in the semis we were eliminated by Manchester after a 1:1 at Old Traford and after leading 2:0 in Torino with an Inzaghi brace.

What was my point? :D

Ah, yes, there was a case where we changed coaches in mid season and it even happened while the great Lippi was our coach.
Then again, back then we were 11th after 20/34 rounds while now we're 3rd after 16/38 rounds so probably we'll still keep Ferrara :(

He said mid-season, Ranieri was fired towards the end of the season with just a few matches left.
Isn't that worse? Things must be really bad for a club to let go of their coach with few matches left.

I just assumed he meant during a season.

EDIT: Alen with the knowledge :D

You sure that the management fired Lippi cause from what i rememeber is that Lippi is the one to quit that season.

It was a mutual agreement between the board and Lippi. At least that's what was publicly stated. What was happening behind the scenes is something we'll probably never find out.
My point was that there could be a chance Ciro to be replaced in mid-season.

But you're right. Firing the coach and making it public that he was fired is something that never happened during mid-season as far as I remember.
Maybe it happened in the 80's, 70's or before, but surely not in the last 15-20 years.

Ferrara: 'It's not a disaster'
Saturday 19 December, 2009

Ciro Ferrara defends his record on the Juventus bench and ignores talk of the sack. “It’s not a complete disaster.”
The Bianconeri are out of the Champions League and trailing Serie A leaders Inter by six points following last week’s 3-1 defeat at Bari.

“It’s not a complete disaster, as some would like to make it seem. This is not my final Press conference either,” slammed the Coach.

“I am not looking for alibis, I am very determined. I’m here to do my job well and to improve. I have certainly made some mistakes, but that is part of this profession.”

Russia manager Guus Hiddink has been linked with the Bianconeri bench should Ferrara slip up against Catania on Sunday.

“I am not worried and was pleased to hear the club publicly back me. When other tacticians were contacted before they chose me, I didn’t make a big issue of it.

“The Champions League exit was a huge disappointment, but you can’t say we’re not doing our duty in Serie A.

“Everything is still to play for, even if we are forced to make fewer mistakes than those in front. It’s not a drama.

“The defeat with Bari was totally different to the Bayern game, as I saw the desire and determination to get a result. I was much more worried after the Champions League defeat, even if the end result was the same.”

Ferrara aims to end 2009 on an up note when welcoming bottom of the table Catania to Turin.

“We are ready and I have the utmost faith in my players. It doesn’t matter who our opponents are, we respect Catania and want the three points.

“Sadly this type of game holds more dangers than most, as we are forced to get the win and have everything to lose.”

Gianluigi Buffon, Giorgio Chiellini, Vincenzo Iaquinta, Mauro Camoranesi, Momo Sissoko and the suspended Christian Poulsen are out of action.

Juventus squad: Caceres, Felipe Melo, Cannavaro, Grosso, Salihamidzic, Marchisio, Del Piero, Amauri, Chimenti, Manninger, Trezeguet, Molinaro, Giovinco, Grygera, Ariaudo, Diego, De Ceglie, Tiago, Legrottaglie, Immobile

I hate this, he still thinks we're doing well in the league.

yeah very well, 4 defeats already
And worse than last season, after huge money spent. :sergio:

Loosing to Bari, drawing with Bologna at home, getting nailed by Palermo away but oh wait we beat Inter so all is well. Wake up Ciro please.
...losing to Cagliari. We're not even losing to teams like Inter, it's the poorer ones screwing us up and humiliating the players.

Indeed, however its not the loses. He somehow has turned the players we bought into utter crap with his retarded formations and lack of tactical knowledge. Lets face it he is a shit manager and if I keep hearing such Ranieri-Esque comments he will be classed as an idiotic person aswell. Just resign Ciro.

The whole team has played like crap really (we know the exceptions) and I don't see how it could be hard to gather a group of immensely talented individuals and get them to play like a team against Cagliari/Palermo. Even worse when he makes some baffling inclusions in the team (Marchisio as left attacking winger), and refuses to acknowledge players who need to come on (or start in numerous cases) to help us win.

The comment about us doing our duty in Serie A is not the case (and sounds very silly), when we were expected to challenge Inter for the title, and we're currently 6 points off the pace.

The fact that we are "only" 6 points off the pace makes me think how shitty Inter have played also. If Inter had played well the gap would be closer to 12 points...

Although I don't always agree with how many of the players have been used, the ones brought in should not have many complains about their positioning. Diego was not played on the wing, Melo was not played in right back and gross was not played as a forward. All of them were played in their preferred positions and they are the ones that failed. I am not saying that they are the only ones to blame but they are responsible as well because on numerous occasions they looked like they didn't care.

Ciro has done a lot of mistakes but he does not take full responsibility here. I don't see anyone crediting him with Caceras's progression, as he stuck with him while everyone here was dismissing him. The players need to understand how important the shirt they put on, shit coach or not.
