I just watched a film last night called tears of the sun.

It was rubbish, but it spoke about a coup that happened in Nigeria.. and most of the film is based with nigeria under some wars. Is this true? If so, when did it happen?

1) We had a civil war here from 1967 to 1970
2) We've had 6 successful coups
3) We've had 1 unsuccessful coup, which didn't lead to anything more than executions for the plotters.
4) We ain't had a war here in 35 years.
5) The hills and mountain ranges so epically depicted in the movie are not in Nigeria.
6) The movie is a buncha crap based on a wild hypothesis, sort of like a Tom Clancy novel.
7) If you want realism in a movie based on an actual war, watch Hotel Rwanda.

Your military must really suck :D

thanks for clearing that up. I was wondering if it was true.. seemed true as they showed clips of people dying that seemed quite real at the beggining of the film.

When was the last coup staged?

Yeah our military does suck. But don't mess with us on a jungle battlefield or we'll kick your ass.

The last coup was in 1993, and the leader of that coup, General Sani Abacha, mysteriously *cough* (viagra) *cough* passed on in 1998, which paved the way for a return to civilian rule.

Note that I said civilian rule. Not democracy.

Don't knock it till you try it pal. Besides, if you got some money, or know somebody who does, Nigeria can be a very fun place to live.
    Out: a very

Yeah, I get by. I also know my rights. This is important because to only thing the crooked Nigerian Police are scared of is a lawyer.

Now, now, there's nothing the officials love in this country more than a broke white dude. So come on down, I'll introduce you to some. In 5 years, your bank will be begging you to come take another credit card.
