If Hodgson is your manager next season then there is a strong chance of signing him regardless, he is a Poulsen fanboy. I don't see how Liverpool are going to realistically complete signings for 'better' midfielders before Aug 31, unless you believe the stories that range from 'China is buying Liverpool', to 'we can buy Messi if we want to', to 'there will be a £150m transfer budget'.
No, but Christian Purslow (our transfer negotiator) is also on the board and may be leafing through prospective bids, beating back the audacious media claims, and trying to decide which of the bidders is the best for the club.

He may not have the time to haggle over wage demands and transfer fees this week.

Where did I say that Liverpool were holding out for a better player?

Ah I think I read that from another post, I thought you were going along those lines, I know a lot of other Liverpool fans are (maybe thinking about the Flamini rumour). I think you'll run out of time with any deals after the takeover, unless the cash is flying about. Teams don't want to lose good players at such a late stage as they can't replace them.

The Flamini rumors started before the ownership rumors. I think I had mentioned that we were linked, but that's it. I certainly haven't claimed we would be signing Lionel Messi or anything remotely close to that.

What I have said, is that with all the pressure mounting in the Liverpool boardroom we may not be signing Poulsen today or even this week (one day left in the week after today). Not to say that we won't sign him.

Flamini to me seems quite reasonable, as Milan don't always use him and are broke. I didn't say you mentioned Messi btw, just silly paper stories that come out from a 'source' (unnamed daydreaming scouser).

The Messi stories stem from a Kenny Huang press release where he said he wanted to heavily invest in the squad. I think he said "If the Hodge wants Messi, I'll try to get him Messi, we have no limits". Or something to that effect.

Huang's just trying to get the fans behind him.

Poulsen talks to continue
Midfielder's agent warns negotiations could take time

By Kent Hedlundh Last updated: 5th August 2010

Poulsen: Liverpool target

Christian Poulsen's agent has opened negotiations with Liverpool but is not sure if an agreement will be reached.

Poulsen has emerged as a transfer target for the Reds this summer, with Roy Hodgson confirming his interest in the Juventusmidfielder this week.

Liverpool have spoken to Poulsen's representative Joern Bonnesen and are reported to have offered a three-year deal.

However, it does not look like anything will be finalised in the near future after Bonnesen returned to Denmark.

"I don't know if we will reach an agreement," the agent told Tipsbladet.

"I will go home without a contract and we will work from there.

"This is not something which will be resolved in two minutes."

Fucking hell how can a player who's only played moderately well for Juventus for 2 seasons think we have some sort of financial obligation to them? I like Poulsen but that is quite frankly insulting.
