Chivu returns to Amsterdam Friday 29 August, 2003

Roma’s financial problems have seen big summer signing Christian Chivu sensationally return to Ajax.
The Romanian defender had not received international clearance to play in official games because his transfer was not completed.
Ajax refused to sign the paperwork as they had not received financial guarantees for the remaining £10m of his £12m transfer.
The Dutch side has now stated on its official website that Chivu will return to Holland until the cash is provided.
The defender will continue to train with the Ajax squad until the matter is sorted out.
It is a shock move, as Roma directors continued to maintain up until this afternoon that the transfer would be completed shortly.
It emerged that Capitalia did not provide the financial guarantees and therefore the move collapsed.
