Paolo_Montero inspired me to make this thread when talking about pogs in another thread. :)

When I was a kid there were certain commercial things that the entire school or even country got all hooked up with. It was usually about collecting, in this way the companies could squeeze the most possible money from our parents.
To me it started a year or two before school with Turtles. There were these little plastic action figures that could move their arms and legs. They couldn't swim like today's action man figures but when we played with them they could do much more incredible things like dropkicks in solarplexus. :)
You were cool if you had Shredder, Donatello, Crang and Beebop but collecting wasn't everything here, although it was important. It was mostly about beating the shit out of your friends Rocksteady.
I was pretty much into Dino-Riders figures at the same time. I worshipped the guy who had the enourmous Brontosaurus armed with missiles and ten guys riding on top with Bazookas.
After this we had two years with marbles. A rather good hobby that actually required some skill and not only wealthy parents.

After this the big boom came: Hockeycards
The hockeycards came at the same time as we started playing hockey and the hype was extreme. The entire country was into this, both boys and girls were buying and trading hockeycards. Many people didn’t know anything about hockey and had probably never had a pair of skates on their feet but still all they wanted for christmas was a golden Wayne Gretzky card.
I collected Jaromir Jagr and Pittsburgh Penguin cards in general. At this time I was livin and breathing hockey. I looked at the NHL results the first thing in the morning, I talked hockey and hockey cards in school and I played hockey after school. Eventually the hockeycards died out.
After this I think I got too old for this stuff. Some had pogs but I never understood what that was all about. Seemed so stupid to have ugly monsters when you could have cool, sweaty hockeyplayers instead. ;)

I’ve always been curious if these trends only was in Sweden or if other countries had hockeycards and marbles.

I have collected magic the gathering trading cards before. You collect them and you can trade and play games with them, and I have made big money out of them, (around 800usd in 4 years time, it is not much but considering I am 14 years old, that was a lot of money)

and now I am collecting nike sneakers :D
