Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini believes the Bianconeri’s upcoming meeting with Napoli has all the makings of a classic encounter.
With both teams unbeaten in this season’s Serie A campaign and the Partenopei seeking revenge for August’s Super Cup defeat, Chiellini is fully aware of the game’s importance to both sets of fans.
The defender did, however, play down suggestions of the fixture having a significant impact on the eventual destiny of the title.
Speaking from Italy’s training base, Chiellini began: “It will be a great game just like the ones against Milan and Inter, but it won’t decide the Scudetto. It’s still too early for that. Our strength is taking things on a game by game basis, and we need to maintain that mindset.”
Chiellini’s return to the international fold signals the end of a long road to recovery following a calf injury sustained in this summer’s European Championship final against Spain.
“It’s been a very positive month. I’ve played well and don’t need to rest, which is also down to the fact that I’ve recently spent a long time on the sidelines through injury.”
