Giorgio Chiellini is delighted to be back in action after battling back from a two-month period on the sidelines.
The tough-tackling defender returned to the first-team fold in Sunday’s convincing 4-1 win over Udinese, and expressed his satisfaction with the Bianconeri’s overall display.
Speaking to Juventus Channel, Giorgio began: “It was a good game and, apart from the incident that characterised the beginning, we felt that we could win by playing in a certain way.”
It’s been a tough road to recovery for the 28-year-old, who admitted to pre-match nerves ahead of his return at the Stadio Friuli.
“I was a bit tense after two months out. I had only trained alongside my team-mates for ten days and, apart from the practice matches in training, I hadn’t even played a friendly game. Once on the pitch, however, I immediately felt positive and transformed the tension into concentration. It’s difficult to be out of action, you see all the others playing and want to be alongside them.”
Following his arrival from Fiorentina in 2005, Giorgio has gone on to become a mainstay of the Juventus and Azzurri defence. He is now just three appearances shy of the 250 mark, but already has another target in his sights.
“I’ve always had the aim of reaching 300 appearances. When we visited the J-Museum I saw the shirts displayed were those of the players who had reached this target. It’s an important number which means that you’ve become part of a club’s history and spent a good part of your life with that particular team.”
Concluding with an analysis of the team’s ambitions, the defender believes the recipe for success is straightforward.
“We need to maintain our humility and desire to win. Naturally tactics and players are also required, but we also had these in other campaigns. The main ingredients of success are the first two.”
