In Monday’s press conference Juve’s young left back, Giorgio Chiellini, signalled his desire to renew his existing contract: “It’s an honour to play for Juve and I’m excited to play a part in this club’s renaissance. My current deal runs out in 2009 but the plan is to meet with the club and renew my contract”. Chiellini referred to the club’s ambitions: “We have a serious project to regain our place at the top and as long as that’s the case, I have a part to play. I wouldn’t be here otherwise”.

I think it gives us all a reason to stay, to write the next chapter in this club’s history together.” The bianconero defender then described the impact of Deschamps’ arrival on the squad: “I only met him two days ago but already he has created a great working atmosphere, both technically and with his personality and charisma. You can tell he played himself as he understands our needs as footballers. He has made a very positive impression.”.
And finally on a place in the Italian squad: “If there’s room in the team I would love to play for the Azzuri. For me it’s not important what division or country you play in. If you’re good enough you should always have the chance to play for your national side”. Giorgio ended on a positive note: “Our plan is to return to the top of world football. We can do it.”
