Tottenham Hotspur have suspended sporting director Frank Arnesen with immediate effect after alleging that he has been the subject of an illegal approach from Chelsea .
The Danish supremo, along with Jacques Santini and current head coach Martin Jol, was installed last summer by chairman Daniel Levy in a bid to facilitate a new management structure at White Hart Lane.
However, according to a statement on the club's official website, Arnesen has now signalled his intention to depart the London outfit after what they term to be an approach in breach of Premier League rules.
The latest controversy comes just four days after the Premier League enquiry into the Ashley Cole affair meted out punishments for finding the Stamford Bridge outfit guilty of an illegal approach for the Arsenal left back.
Chelsea were handed a £300,000 fine and a suspended three point deduction, and could find themselves in further hot water following the accusations from White Hart Lane.
Spurs confirmed that as the former PSV Eindhoven supremo made clear his desire to move to Chelsea they suspended him with immediate effect, and are now in discussions with their legal team.
"Chelsea Football Club has made an approach to Sporting Director, Frank Arnesen, in direct breach of FAPL rules," said a statement on the club's official website.
"This approach was made both prior to requesting permission and without permission from the club.
"Tottenham Hotspur Football Club refused permission for any discussions to take place.
"Notwithstanding that he is subject to contract and holds wide-ranging responsibilities and commitments to all parties at Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, Frank has indicated that he wishes to move to Chelsea Football Club.
"Accordingly, the board of Tottenham Hotspur plc has suspended Frank Arnesen with immediate effect.
"The club is currently in discussions with its legal advisors and a further announcement will be made in due course."
Spurs are yet to air their complaints to the governing body, as Premier League spokesman Dan Johnson confirmed they will wait to see what course the club decide to take.
"We have not received an official complaint," said Johnson.
"We await to see the action Tottenham wish to pursue."
